Pope Francis' glaring failure

First of all, I admire Pope Francis despite some of the positions of the Church. I haven't made a secret of that.

But the lack of a vigorous response to the persecution of GLBT folks in Uganda and other countries, particularly countries in Africa, is shameful.

42% of the population of Uganda is Roman Catholic. The RC is highly influential in Uganda.

Today, finally, a Cardinal spoke up on this, but it was pretty weak sauce. Cardinal Peter Turkson of Ghana who is head of the Council For Justice and Peace commented:

Cardinal Peter Turkson of Ghana, president of the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace, said Tuesday that "homosexuals are not criminals" and shouldn't be sentenced for up to life in prison.

Speaking to reporters in Bratislava where he attended a conference on the Catholic Church and human rights, Turkson said the Vatican also calls on the international community to keep providing aid.

It's not even close to enough.
