General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsGeorge P. Bush wins his first election, and the comments are hilarious.
Usually Yahoo message boards are a Republican/ Tea Party stronghold. Not today! LOL
Some choice examples:
* The Shrub family is a cancer in America. I can't believe Texans are dumb enough to put one in office after the way George and Jeb screwed up the states they represented and George finished as the worst president in America's history. But they are Texans who voted for Perry so anything is possible.
* George P. another in a long line of the annotated (sic) wealthy, with a carefully planned future, who view politics as a hobby and to further enrich the family name and fortune.
* Haven't we had ENOUGH of political dynastys?
* another inexperienced, unqualified political bush hack in the making...will the American people ever learn, his seeds are already sown, his loyalties are set in stone- it is no longer about the country, only the $$$.
* Can any of you neo-con republicans name anything Dubya did that was constructive for the U.S.? Bombing the hell out of two middle east countries doesn't count. And tax breaks for the 1% either.
* Amazing only in America can a guy get elected simply because he has a huge amount of money to back him up, no qualifying history or experience needed!
* Once again, the money wins.
* "shaking off an under-funded primary challenger and securing the Republican nomination for the little-known but powerful post of Texas land commissioner." This goes to show you that money DOES buy an election and we all know how much money the Bush Dynasty has. I guess the rich are to inherit this country!
* At least this Bush knows more than one language. His uncle could barely put two coherent sentences together.
* Aristocracy is un-American and the Bushes are obviously an aristocracy.
* Amazing what a family political dynasty one can build with a fortune made off holocaust slave labor.
* Can't any of these Bushes get a real job?
* Christ this family is like a bunch of cockroaches every time you turn over a rock there they are. Why can't they just go away.
* Can someone please seal that rock! So no more bush's can crawl out...
* America doesn't need a standing army, when you can send the Bush clan, they can destroy a nation in no time at all.
* NO MORE BUSH!

(14,449 posts)Are they just going to hand this seat to George P.? Why isn't their any stories about the Democratic nominee? A progressive running? Anybody? We can laugh all day long but where is the Democratic work trying to ensure this doesn't happen? I don't get it.

(23,973 posts)Only speaking from my own experience, but when you have absolutists making demands that the candidate they want (who has no chance in Hell of getting elected state-wide) gets the nod or they take their ball and go home, pragmatists who see who actually has a politically possible chance of getting elected tear their hair out in frustration.
I have heard a lot of the same from those Dems in other states with a close split in the electorate.
You cannot always get what you want in a candidate, I'll take a 90% candidate voting my way over 100% of nothing every time.
But you just can't convince a True Believer that the perfect is the enemy of the good.
Not saying that is what happened in Texas, but their focus seems be entirely on the governors race.

(14,449 posts)I mean it seems like everyone has pretty much decided that Bush will win this position. I also thought they mentioned it was unopposed for the General.

(67,782 posts).... former El Paso Mayor John Cook. Never heard of him. But, being Texas I wouldn't give him much of a chance against a Republican, much less a "bush".

(37,160 posts)I'm not sure how widespread it ever was or how long it lasted, but after the incident where Poppy Bush had some sort of dizzy spell at a dinner during a visit to Japan, briefly passing out and regurgitating a little onto the Japanese prime minister's lap, in some circles the act of up chucking after a night of drinking was referred to as bushusuru, "doing a Bush."

He spoke before a national audience when he was 12 before the 1988 Republican National Convention, which nominated his grandfather. He also spoke at the 1992 convention on the occasion of G.H.W. Bush's renomination.
He campaigned for his uncle, George W. Bush, during the 2000 and 2004 presidential campaigns.
that's why he's dangerous.

Unfortunately for them, the newer guard of Repub politicians are like W Bewsh on steroids and Bibles.

Because, blind to self authoritarian hypocrites have a tendency to judge a politician by the color of their political facade (red or blue), not by the content of their character.

(32,064 posts)and thankfully these dinosaurs are dying off. If you look at demographics we have about 15 years to go before the young latino population comes into play as a strong political force.
The republicans know this too and that is why they are pushing George P - he is their answer to those changing demographics.
I've spoken w/people who have met him - they confirm he is bilingual but he's as vacant as the rest of the family. Of course with their base that is a bonus ...

(36,988 posts)Pestilence had a number of supernatural abilities of unknown origin, but perhaps deriving from his being buried at a place of power for over a century (Talisman theorized it had something to do with Llan the Sorcerer and his 10,000 year cycle of evil). He had the power to spontaneously generate life forms symbolic of disease and death, including maggots and flies. He could control the spirits of the dead, including those of the Great Beasts.
Pestilence could transform his appearance into that of other people, both alive and dead.
Pestilence had the power to generate disease, could cause instantaneous but temporary rapid aging and had the power to draw upon the "bodily decay" of other living beings to rejuvenate himself.
Pestilence had extensive knowledge of chemistry beyond what was commonly known in the 19th Century. His knowledge was such that he could create potions which could induce a death-like state of suspended animation.
Whoops ...... that was a Marvel super villain.
Anyway you get the idea.

Obviously, like most "tricks" pulled against those countries, it has "trickled down" to America much the same as our lifestyles have become so similar.

(30,099 posts)This sucks, big time.
The Land Commissioner, as the head of the General Land Office is known, gains power and significance as a result of the large amount of public land in the state and the resources, particularly energy, that are found on many of these lands. He or she is elected to a four-year term.
The General Land Office administers the use of all state-owned lands. This responsibility includes leasing for gas and oil production, mining, and grazing, and monitoring the environmental quality of public lands and waters. The office also operates the veterans' land program, in which state bonds are used to underwrite loans to military veterans for land purchases.
The Land Commissioner authorizes exploration and exploitation of public lands, so the Commissioner's decisions affect hundreds of millions of dollars in economic activity. This also has a significant impact on state government and services, as the General Land Office generates hundreds of millions of dollars in royalties on oil and gas extracted from state lands.
