(11,804 posts)If you started with the story you linked to than I wouldn't have said anything. Instead you imply that all religions are hypocrites and pull out a line by Ben Franklin to back it up.

The founders well knew what a minefield a state religion would be and forbid it. Religious freedom was always meant to apply to individuals, not to businesses and certainly not to corporations, and certainly not to the state.
Anybody who grew up before the 60s can remember the magazine hysteria over "mixed marriages," people of one sect marrying people of another sect. Horrors!
The truce started by Reagan that has united the worst religious people under the umbrella of "conservative Christian" is showing a few cracks. May they turn into chasms soon.
