Lost dog's 'rescue' leaves a 4-year-old brokenhearted

Somewhere in this city, a family is falling in love with Rosa Torres' dog.

Three weeks ago, 8-month-old Raffiki disappeared from Torres' Panorama City backyard. Torres scoured the neighborhood, hung fliers, searched Craigslist and posted pictures on a Facebook page dedicated to missing pets. She visited her local animal shelter again and again and again.

She didn't realize someone had found Raffiki and taken her to an animal shelter on the other side of the San Fernando Valley, 10 miles from Torres' home.

The rescue group fucked up, IMHO...could have talked to her and also helped her get the dog fixed and better taken care of.

That is very sad. I hope they straighten this out. It would be good if they could put the dog back with Torres, and the other family could just rescue a different dog.

like the article notes, then another dog would have been adopted out...two would have homes instead of one.

Just because the dog got away and ultimately wound up in the care of the rescue organization, how does that somehow transfer ownership to the rescue group? Plus, according to the PR director, the rescue group knew the original family was looking for the dog hours before they adopted it out. If they felt the first family wasn't qualified to keep the dog because of various issues (wasn't chipped, tagged or neutered-- whatever the story was) I still don't see how it's their call or right to knowingly convert the "property" to someone else; they should have worked with the real authorities if they thought the original family/owners weren't caring for the dog properly.

But apparently the rescue group acknowledged the dog belonged to the Torres, so there's that admission...yeah, you would think they couldn't adopt it to someone else when they know it belonged to another family.
