2 Ukraine Narratives.

A) Noble, freedom loving brave protesters take down corrupt Putin lackey and turn to the wonderful west for succor, friendship and guidance.

B) Neo Nazi thugs stage astro turf protests black ops right wingers take out legitimate struggling democratic governmetn allied with wise mother russia and Putin. Putin begged to go into Crimea by desperate ethnic Russian.

In this handy dandy crisis, either side can me molded to fit the scary "they're like/hitler/nazis template, thus making them seem really scary and dangerous.

If you are on the A Team, you can run around calling people who are vociferous enough about the horrors of Putin, Putin Lovers or Putin Apologists. And don't forget to downplay the role of the right wing

If you're on Team B, you can actually play the role of Putin apologist and defend his sending troops into Crimea. You can also blame the whole thing on the neo cons.

I'm glad to be catching shit from both teams

team b has definitely stepped up to the plate in the last few days as far as acting as apologists for Putin goes.

As you can see, I don't have much use for either narrative.

It put them in their proper perspective relative to the larger protest movement and general population's anger with Yanukovych.

I think many of us recognize that even if the interim Ukrainian government gets past this Russian crisis, there are no guarantees Ukraine government won't slip back into the kleptocracy of corrupt politicians and oligarchs.

But they certainly deserve a fair chance to do so, and Putin's garbage (and now invasion hostilities) should be highlighted and called out for what they are.
