(154,021 posts)GOOD. It just took three weeks. But he did something a lot of people do not do, he talked to people on all sides and listened.

Those of us who are considerably less informed about the XL pipeline (including me) have known all along that tar sands are unspeakable polluting, that the pipeline is an ecological disaster waiting to happen, that the Kochs are the movers and shakers behind it, and that only a handful of polluters will make big $$ on the XL pipeline.
If Ed didn't know what I know, then he's too ill-informed to be wasting time on.

(32,086 posts)I was about to give up on him, but I figured that since he was willing to all of the facts, he'd eventually come to a better conclusion. And, sure enough, he did. I hate being pissed off at someone who has been such a good ally to working people, but he has redeemed himself in my eyes.

(25,816 posts)I'm against the whole thing, but I note: the pipeline is already mostly built, except for that section over the aquifer.
As far as I can tell, the oil will then be transported by rail. It's flowing already. Warren Buffet bought a railroad because he thought he'd make money on this. What I wonder is: if the pipeline through Nebraska is out, is rail in?

(16,296 posts)I heard him a few weeks back defending the pipeline and was cringing. This was not the Ed Schultz I thought him to be or should be. Glad to see him come over from the dark side of this.

I think the irreversibility of an inevitable leak over the aquifer convinced me as well thanks to Ed's reporting. The pipes get old and deteriorate and corporations maximizing profits are unlikely to spend much money to replace them until it's too late. And once the aquifer is contaminated the oil companies can't clean it up.
Um, why can't Canada build a refinery of their own and a pipeline out to Vancouver?

(53,661 posts)Schultz says that he researched and learned the permanent damage it would do to water supplies in Nebraska when it leaks as the water table is so high there. And he admitted it was not an IF but a WHEN and would ruin farming. So he did a mea culpa on his show. For that, I am glad. Too many voices were after PBO to sign off to this thing which had no purpose for America, but is only to double the net worth of the Koch brothers. They don't need any more and we need a country that's livable.
