Cummings and Ed Schultz Agree: Issa Got Away with Cutting Mic Without Consequences

On Wednesday, Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-MD) blew up at Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA) during a hearing into the alleged abuses committed by the Internal Revenue Service in 2012 when Issa cut off his microphone following that hearing’s adjournment. Appearing on MSNBC on Thursday, Cummings agreed with Ed Schultz that Issa “got away with” cutting his microphone without consequence.

“He clearly violated House rules,” Cummings told Schultz. “When I asked for five minutes to basically address an issue that would have helped us get more information, he cut me off.”

“This is the fear, I think, from a taxpayer and from a democracy standpoint; what if every committee in Washington was run like this by the majority?” Schultz asked. “Do you think Issa got away with this?”

“I do,” Cummings replied. “I think it’s very unfortunate that anybody could get away with this kind of activity.”
