(38,506 posts)When I first read the headline, I thought this was going to be a story about a zombie dog.
Glad that's not the case.

(7,784 posts)is theft. It sounds like the woman found what she thought was a stray and tried to take it to a shelter. They must have reason to doubt her story, but the article doesn't make it clear at all.
And the owner might want to consider tags if the dog is allowed to roam alone off leash

Apparently he was tagged, but had lost his tags a couple days earlier.

"East Lincoln Animal Hospital posted on its Facebook page that a person did bring in a dog that matched Bohs description to check for a microchip (Boh is not microchipped).
The page said the woman told the office she was going to take the dog to a shelter. She did not leave any contact information.
Boh is two-and-a-half years old. He has a thick, black, nylon collar.
The tags fell off in the yard a few days before he vanished."

(7,784 posts)sickening. But I don't see that reported in this story.
It just hits home with me because I found 2 dogs in the last 10 years or so. One was a tiny Yorkie wandering alone beside a busy street. I stopped my car, picked it up and went directly to my vet's office. The dog was chipped and they called the owner.
The other time was different. I was walking my dog in the park one morning and an unleashed dog started following us. She wasn't a stray, she was clean, groomed and well fed. Well, she followed us all the way home. I checked and she had a collar and a tag with her name and a phone number. So I put her in my backyard, gave her water and called the number on her tag. No answer, so I left a message. I assumed the people were at work and would call in the evening. And that's exactly what happened. But that dog was in my yard all day and it kind of freaks me out that it could have been considered theft.

(45,488 posts)If concerned in the future, also call your local shelter and/or your vet, describe that you found the dog, called the owner and are leaving the dog in your backyard until the owner contacts you. That way you'd have collaboration for your story.
