Oliver North: GOP Must Oppose Marriage Equality Like It Fought Slavery
Submitted by Brian Tashman on Friday, 3/7/2014 11:10 am
In an appearance at CPAC today, Oliver North denounced President Obama for treating military service members like laboratory rats in some radical social experiment and apologizing for America. North insisted that the US has nothing ever to apologize for, not once in its entire history.

Huckabee: Deep In Their Hearts, Most Americans Know God Created This Nation
Submitted by Kyle Mantyla on Friday, 3/7/2014 10:50 am
Mike Huckabee was only given ten minutes to speak at CPAC today, so he wanted to get right into talking about "the things that I know," foremost of which is that God created the United States and if the nation does not repent, it'll deserve to be destroyed just like Sodom and Gomorrah.

D'Souza: Obama Is Coming For Your Couches, Cars
Submitted by Brian Tashman on Friday, 3/7/2014 12:55 pm
Dinesh DSouza came to CPAC today to promote his new movie, America, and explain how President Obama is implementing an anti-American, anti-capitalist agenda. DSouza told the conservative conference that Obama believes the free market system is based on theft and seemed to be under the impression that Obama came up with the entire system of taxation: Think about this, its almost like here you are at home, youre watching TV, and a bunch of government guys show up at your door and they start taking your furniture and taking your car and youre like, What are you doing? Theyre like, You know your paycheck that you got last month? You didnt earn that, you stole it, it doesnt really belong to you. This is what, in a sense, we are up against.

(51,907 posts)Mike Huckabee spoke at CPAC because of course he did; he may represent the general spirit of CPAC more than any other single attendee (with the possible exception of Oliver North, who trades in a good portion of Godliness for a much higher proportion of patriotically themed criminalitygood conservative choices, both). He wants to make sure you know that our nation was founded by God (see above), but that's just Hucka-boilerplate. The real message is that Russian President Vladimir Putin is such a man:
"I know the only time that Vladimir Putin shivers is when he takes his shirt off in a cold Russian winter," Huckabee said to laughter and applause from the audience.
What the hell is with this conservative fixation on Vladimir Putin? I know conservatism loves a good, strong father figure, but choosing "post-Soviet Russian strongman" as one of the archetypical figures of the new conservative movement is not among the outcomes anyone would have predicted a scant 10 years ago. Show these people a strong chest and they go weak at the knees.
