Ohio halts gas drilling near site of earthquakes

http://www.nbc4i.com/story/24936084/ohio-halts-gas-drilling-near-site-of-earthquakes

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (AP) - State regulators ordered a gas drilling company to halt operations in an area of northeastern Ohio after three minor earthquakes were felt in the area.

No property damage had been reported from the earthquakes that happened Monday morning just west of Youngstown.

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources says there's nothing indicating that the earthquakes are connected to any injection wells.

quite often. Usually they are centered around lake Erie, a couple years ago we felt the one
that hit Washington DC.

We had exactly ONE quake when I was a kid there and it was centered south and was, if memory serves, the New Madrid fault shifting. This is very obviously fracking. They are shallow, they happened in almost the exact same coordinates as a drilling sight, and there are NO faults known anywhere near this area of the country. Are you a fracking proponent or something? Cause now it's like being a climate change denier, deny till the cows come home, it's still a reality.

before we had any fracking in Ohio.

Look at 2010 to present, there are many of them in 2010 and 2011. Look at 2012 and 2013 they are way down.

Could you point out the history of earthquake activity, BEFORE any drilling began, in Mahoning county, where these quakes occurred yesterday and today? I don't seem to be able to find them.

I noticed that there are certain counties where they had several in one year when they didn't in other years. I see one year there were several in
Shelby county in one year years before we ever heard of fracking. Why only a half dozen in 2012 since fracking stated?

This is fracking, and they even shut down the operation afterward so if that doesn't point toward the cause being fracking I don't know what does.

Not one earthquake in any of those counties since 2000.

Mahoning only has 7 wells, why is fracking causing earthquakes there and no place else?

And you know what, I defer to USGS on this:

Is the recent sequence of earthquakes near Youngstown, Ohio, related to the wastewater disposal activities there?

There is a credible connection between the wastewater injection activities near Youngstown and the recent earthquakes, including the magnitude 4 earthquake that occurred on New Year’s Eve, 2011. This connection is based on the close proximity of the earthquakes to the injection well and depth of injection, and the observation that these events began soon after the start of the injection activities.

We had one earthquake in years and years...since fracking there have been six in a year. And one of the sites is near mosquito Lake which give Warren their drinking water...it might be it could be done safely and there is an economic benefit. But given the corruption in the Kasich administration...we will be luck if they don't poison the entire state of Ohio.
