The company behind Honey Maid graham crackers on Monday unveiled a diversity-rich advertising campaign prominently featuring same-sex parents among its collection of real American families.
With the new campaign, Honey Maid recognizes that while the makeup and the day-to-day lives of families have evolved, the wholesome family connections remain the same, according to a statement by parent company Mondelez International.
Among the real-life stories featured in the 30-second ad, part of Honey Maids This is Wholesome campaign, is Jason and Tim, who are raising their two sons in a same-sex household. Also featured is an interracial couple and their three children, and a single dad.
We recognize change is happening every day, from the way in which a family looks today to how a family interacts to the way it is portrayed in media, said Gary Osifchin, Sr. Marketing Director of Mondelez International.

(21,756 posts)It does disturb me though that there are still so many who work so hard to portray regular people as somehow 'wrong', all because of their fears.

(21,756 posts)What disturbs me is the people (fundies, freepers and others of that ilk) who spend all their time condemning anyone who is LGBT when it is normal and natural.

(15,090 posts)This kind of reminds me of something I saw last month. We had gone to Disney World and were walking back to our room down one of those endless hotel hallways. Walking ahead of us was a gay couple who had with them a little boy of about eight, who was probably adopted, being different enough in complexion to not likely be the biological child of either partner. What struck me about this little grouping was how darn happy they were. The little boy was running ahead in excitement and running back to his parents, the couple was laughing. They were so joyous together. And, yes, they were wholesome.

(1,269 posts)And we all pretty much picked up on the same vibe. Well, all here and abouts, anyhow.
This stuff keeps slowly getting across the waves like this, and pretty soon everybody will be getting it. This is what trips the tide, out into the mainstream it goes.
I like that.
Life is good. Wholesome stuff.

(15,774 posts)I have been encountering same sex couples for over 10 years. The hardest thing about my job is making the children feel that it is ok. Instead of asking them for their mom's number, I just ask them who do I call....you know, just normal stuff.
