I just caught it tonight. Disappointing, very disappointing.

Nothing new at all, hopefully it will get better.

Sets the stage for upcoming episodes.

Also, bear in mind, this is targeted to the non-science public.

But I truly hope that it isn't dumbed down.

I liked the first episode, but I have my hopes that Tyson will get in deeper.

after watching Tyson's update last night. Even with the eye candy it appears to be a pale imitation of the original. Sagan is a much better speaker than Tyson (who I have a great deal of respect for). The script is better in the original. Bruno's execution makes for a good story, but Galileo is a better representation of a scientist being attacked for presenting his observations (as opposed to Bruno's speculations). An important message can be taken from Bruno's execution - one in which it is very dangerous to put the power of the state into the hands of the church but I don't think that fits into the narrative of Cosmos.

I am not sure what to make of the animation and showing the perceived imagination of Bruno. It does not seem very fact based and appeals almost to mysticism.

Also the music is much better in the original.

This being said. I do hope that the new Cosmos is successful and brings more to viewing the world from a scientific perspective.
