It's $$$$. Lots of it.
I'm sure you're shocked.
Interesting tie-in to DER ( "Dems" for Ed Reform" and ..... uh, oh....., gulp,....... Obama.
>>>Governor Andrew Cuomo, who once promised to be a lobbyist for students, is in reality a lobbyist for charter schools, which enroll about 3% of the states students.
He is not a lobbyist for the other 97%, whose schools are cutting their budgets because of Cuomos tax cap.
How could this be?
Geoff Decker of Chalkbeat, a New York Citys nonpartisan education blog, explains Cuomos close connection with the super-wealthy financiers of the charter schools in New York City.
Decker reviewed campaign filings and reports:
Cuomos reelection bid has so far received nearly $400,000 from a cadre of wealthy supporters of Eva Moskowitzs Success Academy Charter School network, according to an updated tally of newly-released campaign filings. Some money has even come from Moskowitzs political action committee, Great Public Schools, which has given $65,000 to Cuomo since 2011.
But thats not all.
By one tally of the 2014 filings, Cuomo racked up at least $800,000 in donations from 27 bankers, real estate executives, business executives, philanthropists and advocacy groups who have flocked to charter schools and other education causes in recent years.>>>>>>> http://dianeravitch.net/2014/03/06/why-cuomo-loves-charters/

(12,804 posts)Malloy full steam ahead on Common, Core Common Core Testing and education reforms
Just over a month ago, Governor Malloy took the the microphone to announce his election year effort to persuade teachers, parents and public school advocates to overlook his three years of failed education policies and throw their support behind his re-election aspirations.
In essence, Malloy said, I hear you and well wait until after Im re-elected to proceed with some of our efforts to undermine Connecticuts public education system.
But proving, yet again, that action speaks louder than words, Malloy has been pushing full steam ahead with some of the worst aspects of his corporate education reform industry agenda.
A re-cap of Wait, What? posts from the weekend are a shocking reminder that Malloy has the habit of saying one thing and doing another.

(2,004 posts)I had not seen this information about Malloy, but I am in the midwest, so our media does not carry much info about the east coast. He has been pushed as the great liberal hope of the future. If he is in bed with charter schools, he is exposed as just another corporate hog at the trough.
I will be bookmarking that site. Thanks, again!

Seems like that is the one overwhelming truth in politics

(2,004 posts)The postings on her site illuminate the true agendas of many politicians. If they are willing to sell out children for corporate profit, they will stop at nothing to keep their corporate masters happy. Cuomo is a big sell out and is not a liberal at all. While I support Obama, his education policies are an absolute nightmare for children. It makes me very concerned about what else Obama is doing in areas of which I am less knowledgeable.
The vicious attack ads running in New York against Mayor DeBlasio are incredibly disingenuous. The charter schools owners care nothing for children and are only interested in the profits they can steal from public schools. Rather than create a product that people want to buy, the new business model is steal public funds via privatization. I cannot understand why voters do not get this.
