Hey, Colorado… $2 MILLION in toke taxes!

Far out…

In the national briefs this morning, I see where CO made rough $2 million in marijuana taxes in January, according to their state revenue officials. This apparently is the world's first accounting of the recreational pot business.

The tax total reported by the state Dept of Revenue indicates $14,02 million worth of recreational pot was sold.

I wonder… any speeding tickets related? Naah… Domestic violence? Hmmm? Naaahhh…

Hey, how about a lot of sexual intercourse? … Ahhh! Now THAT'S something to consider!

That just last week there was a report stating as much as 100 million in tax revenue this year. On one hand the supply chain isn't yet established so supplies are spotty, also supplies are still widely available on the street for 1/2 to 2/3 the price at retail stores. Summer vacation season in Colorado will almost certainly draw a larger than usual crowd. All this considered, still not sure they will see 100 million this year.

Somewhere here last week I saw the first MJ ad, which did a good job in pointing out the dangers of getting anything off the street versus controlled.

Personally, if supply is low to meet demand, how much imagination would one have to consider what quality or what is being "stepped on" to compete "on the streets". Were I to vacation with the pot in mind, I wouldn't take it from any other source than what was controlled, JUST for that reason.

But… we'll see, won't we? Good point...

I suspect you're right that tourists will definitely buy from dispensaries, the word is that most resident users are still buying off the street. It is my understanding that street price is higher than dispensary wholesale. One should expect confusion and reluctance this early in the process I suppose. It will be interesting to see this unfold. No matter what, taking the profits from the black market should be a net good. .
