It's so much simpler than most realize.. to save animals and the planet, and starts with us.. if we do our part.. how ever small, and everyone else does their part.. we will do just that

(53,661 posts)And my city has just banned plastic bags and we're trying to get rid of all of it. We recycle everything, make sure it's not a problem, but stopping at the point of purchase is the best remedy.

(26,549 posts)Most of the ones I see have a pull-tab on the holder, which breaks the circle.
However, the plastic is still plenty stretchable, so I also see plenty of people just yanking on a bottle instead of using the pull-tab.

(36,269 posts)like that stuff used to stick magnets to phone books, credit cards to letters, etc. Don't know if the idea didn't work out, or what.
But yeah ... a few perforated lines wouldn't hurt.

(8,020 posts)Maybe I'm just getting old and cranky... crankier, actually, but the packaging these days is just too fucking much.
Those blister/clamshell things don't recycle, they're hard to get open, and they use a helluva lot of material.
I actually knew a guy in the 1970's who got a Ph.d in packaging. I'll bet he needed all that education in the field to invent some of the packaging we see now.

There's no reason why they couldn't be made from paper or cardboard, or even better, provide a fold-up carrier at the point of sale so you can load your own. Cost Plus World Market does that for their individual bottles, and I know I've seen the same for carrying wine bottles.
