THE Malaysian military says it has radar evidence showing missing Flight MH370 was hundreds of kilometres off course and travelling in the opposite direction to its original destination.
The development injects even more mystery into the investigation of the Boeing 777 jetliners disappearance after authorities identified two passengers travelling on stolen passports and said it was looking less likely that terrorism played a part.
The laid back approach to security of one of the flights co-pilots has also come under scrutiny after two women came forward to detail how he broke rules by inviting them into the cockpit during a flight in 2011.
With a huge search effort still unable to locate the plane or any wreckage several days after it lost contact while en route from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing, the zone where officials have been concentrating the efforts continues to expand.

(8,554 posts)days before the Malaysian jet disappeared. Could this article from Taiwan be bogus?
http://www.scmp.com/news/asia/article/1445314/warning-possible-terrorist-attack-china-received-taiwan-days-malaysia
Taiwan's spy chief revealed yesterday that the island's security officials had last week received a warning about possible terrorist attacks on the mainland.
National Security Bureau chief Tsai De-sheng told a legislative committee that the agency had passed on a warning of planned attacks on Beijing airport and the city's subway system to mainland authorities after receiving it on March 4.
Tsai did not specify how the warning, which came three days after a knife attack at Kunming railway station left 29 civilians dead, had been relayed to the bureau.
However, security chiefs were believed to have received the alert from Taiwan-based China Airlines, following a phone call to the airline earlier in the day from a man who said he wanted to warn of possible terrorist activity

I can see crazy people trying to force a 777 to land on an inadequate air strip out in the boonies and that would not turn out well, at all.

(4,205 posts)From what I have read a 777 can put down with light load in about 6000 ft. but that is a little touchy needs a good pilot and best conditions mostly needs a 10000 ft runway or more depending on winds and load on plane.

"Our main focus is to find the aircraft. There is a possibility that the plane had to make an air turn back so we have to expand the search area," he said.
The search area had expanded to the west coast of Malaysia.
He said Malaysia's Department of Civil Aviation and the Royal Malaysian Air Force were looking into the reasons for the turn back, and would announce their findings later.
He also said he spoke to Singapore's Defence Minister Dr Ng Eng Hen on Saturday who agreed to deploy three Singapore vessels to help with the search.

I wish they would just admit it.
