Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer announces she will not run for re-election
by Hunter
In breaking news, Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer has announced that she will not be re-running for the office that the state constitution prohibits her from holding anyway.
"Standing before you today is truly bittersweet. I am saddened to be leaving this post next year, but I am proud of the remarkable progress weve made for this state during my time in office."
Why was it ever a question, you ask? Because Brewer is of the opinion that her first term of office did not count, since she didn't run for it. She was elevated to governor after Gov. Janet Napolitano left for a position in the Obama administration.
Although Brewer said she was not running again, she told Capitol Media Services that she believes her first two years in office do not count as her term, since she did not choose to become governor.
And though you can bet that Arizona legislators would quickly move to "clarify" the state constitution if it looked like it was going to present a true impediment (see: Rand Paul), in the end Jan Brewer looked around and decided she had no particular desire to captain the good ship Crazytown any longer. Can't blame her.
Surprisingly, Democrats may have some possibility of picking up the office, helped by a good candidate and a potentially unpleasant Republican primary.
