The spin from the Putin's cheerleaders at Rt.com and elsewhere re: troops in Crimea:debunked!

Many of Putin's apologists and supporters have made much noise about the right for Russia to keep troops at bases in Crimea.

Here is the fact sheet from Putin's government from which his supporters and agents have been operating:

http://rt.com/news/russian-troops-crimea-ukraine-816/

This is not so clever deception. No one is arguing--no one--that Russia had a lease in the Crimean peninsula at which it was allowed to station troops.

What the Putinistas are trying to do is justify the armed occupation of Crimea--the sovereign territory of Ukraine--by Russian soldiers stationed at those bases.

Problem with that is, besides violating basic precepts of international law, it is a flagrant violation of several treaties Russia has signed (credit to moondust for finding this)

http://ericposner.com/the-1997-black-sea-fleet-agreement-between-russia-and-ukraine/

The treaty explicitly states that Russian troop exercises are to be conducted within the confines of its leased bases. See Article 8.2 below. Moreover, Article 6.1 states that

6.1 Military formations carry out their activity at stationing locations in accordance with Russian Federation legislation, respect Ukraine's sovereignty, abide by its legislation, and do not allow interference in Ukraine's internal affairs.

Anyone who tells you that the leases signed with Ukraine allow Russia's troops to leave their bases and assert authority outside the bases is lying to you out of some absurd loyalty to the Russian government.

I've seen some horrible stuff written about prosense that stands. It's also pretty much the same people defending the holocaust denial. Good thing prosense seems like one tough person who knows how to consider the source of those attacks and lets them roll away.

Then, I found: http://www.democraticunderground.com/10024661448

It seems it never ends. They are also the same people that claim to care about anti-Semitism, when convenient to their cause.

I'm not usually inclined to hide things unless there is a blatant attack on another member.
This doesn't rise even close to that level, even if I don't agree with Whisp most of the time.
It's called an opinion, and I can live with ones I don't agree with.

I see nothing offensive about it. If I'd been on that jury I would have told the alerter to "take a hike".

What an awful hide.

Obama get's shat upon daily at this allegedly Democratic website.

But for damn sure, don't mock or deride a libertarian opinion writer or his fugitive "source".

We are getting into "a noun, a verb, and Snowden" territory.

You undermine your very real point about Putin annexing Crimea in violation of international law by bringing Snowden into this.
It's irrelevant and needlessly inflammatory.

Watching the 5 or 6 people that always cry about this place is so amusing, especially when they don't get their way and pretend it is DUs fault. Then to watch them call out Skinner...

Tasteless but totally expected.

It's 5-6 at any given time, but there's a larger group that rotates in/out

at least back in the day it was just the people who couldn't bear being oppressed by the 'unrec' button

Such hatred for President Obama..
Such hatred for the Democratic Party...
Such hatred for the United States...

That they cheer when a foreign country which did nothing but to throw off a corrupt dictator is invaded - because America is against it.

It's a sad, dark, sick, place these people are living in.

our government engages in. Then they have the gall to tell those of us who criticize military intervention that we "hate America."

It's that old "you're either with us or against us" mentality, and THAT is a sad, dark, sick place to be living in.

This has been my issue with the whole Crimea situation from the beginning.
There was no legal justification for the Russians to leave their bases in the first place.
There were no 'Russian citizens' to protect.
This is a naked annexation of the Crimea.
