Does The Pinging They Heard 4 Hrs After Losing Contact Only Occur While The Plane Is In The Air?....

They are now talking about the pinging that emanated from this plane after they lost contact. I was wondering if this pinging only occurs while the plane is in flight or could it still be occurring or heard if the plane was downed?

As long as the engines are producing power and the sat antennas can see the satellite in the sky. LiberalArkie Mar 2014 #4

The Wall Street Journal subsequently changed its reporting to say that signals from the plane -- giving its location, speed and altitude -- were picked up by communications satellites for at least five hours after it disappeared. The last "ping" came from over water, the newspaper reported, citing unidentified people briefed on the investigation.

This story has enough of them already, most all of them denied.

The speculation on this is mostly rubbish. Take it with a grain of salt.

I ignore them.
