Award-winning MC3467x family helps developers reduce cost and drive innovation when creating battery charging systems
AUSTIN, Texas April 6, 2009 Freescale Semiconductors lithium-ion (Li-ion) battery charger ICs once again have garnered industry recognition for their advanced energy-saving design and environmental benefits. The MC3467x family of Li-ion battery charger ICs received the prestigious EDN Innovation Award at the Embedded Systems Conference in San Jose, Calif. This award honors engineering excellence among unique, state-of-the-art electronic products.
Freescale introduced its Li-ion battery charger IC family in 2008 to address increasing industry demand to optimize battery life and performance for portable consumer electronics. The MC3467x devices are designed to provide exceptionally high performance and accuracy, as well as outstanding configuration flexibility that enables Freescale to deliver highly tailored charger ICs for application-specific requirements.
The customization of the MC3467x devices helps minimize the time and expense manufacturers often experience in the development process. Target applications for the Freescale battery charger IC family include cell phones, personal media players, navigation systems and digital still cameras, as well as travel chargers for these devices.
Its gratifying that EDN has recognized the exceptional innovation of our Li-ion battery charging technology, said Klaus Buehring, senior vice president and general manger of Freescales RF, Analog & Sensor Group. This coveted award acknowledges the exemplary work of our analog engineers who are developing green, energy-saving products that are helping make the world a better place.
The Freescale MC3467x family of Li-ion battery charger ICs was also named one of the greenest semiconductor applications in the 2008 Green Apps Contest, sponsored by Heart
