Catholic school pulls band from Boston St. Patrick's Parade, fears condoning 'homosexual lifestyle'

Saw this link in the Sam Adams thread, and thought it needed to be its own thread. I can't believe in this day and age, that homophobia is still so entrenched that a school will pull it's band and float from the fucking St. Patrick's Day Parade because of the 'teh gays'.

Shouldn't the Catholic Church be working toward normalizing relations with the rest of the world, instead of further isolating their homophobic asses?

Catholic school pulls band from South Boston St. Patrick's Day Parade out of fear of condoning 'homosexual lifestyle'

BOSTON — The Immaculate Heart of Mary School in Harvard has participated in the South Boston St. Patrick's Day Parade for decades. The school enters both its marching band and a float, but this year the school decided to stay home because of the possible inclusion of gays and lesbians.

The school said in a statement that its float featuring St. Patrick and a Celtic cross will not appear because they do not want to appear to be condoning the "homosexual lifestyle."

"This float has become the Icon of the St. Patrick's Day Parade in South Boston appearing in all types of media whenever the parade is mentioned. The familiar scene of St. Patrick joyfully giving his blessing to the crowds has, sad to say, come to an end. In the footsteps of Saint Patrick, IHM does not condone and will not appear to condone the homosexual lifestyle," said Principal Brother Thomas Dalton.

Dalton referenced the teachings of Pope John Paul II and Nos. 2357 of the Catechism of the Catholic Church as reasons for staying out of the parade this year.

Whoever the South Boston Allied War Veterans Council are, they're a bunch of bigots.

Kudos to Boston Mayor Martin Walsh, tho:

Walsh says he won't march if gay groups are excluded. A Walsh spokeswoman tells The Boston Globe the mayor is disappointed no deal was reached.

Such a shame that the Catholic Church is still not accepting of all of God's children.

But here's what the Band Director had to say:

"This would have been the band'™s 25th time in the parade; you can imagine the disappointment of the students on not going, and yet they are happy to stand up for their faith," said band director Brother Peter Brackett.

doing laundry together?

JCOATH, wtf.

Let's ask each of them how their "lifestyle" matches "heterosexual lifestyle" and watch them stammer when they figure out there is no "lifestyle" attached to sexual orientation.

Are they seriously that clueless or are they just too too refined to say "sex, I don't want someone having sex except as I decree" and try an euphimism out of their bigotry by yelling "lifestyle" and looking like idiots?

Seriously. wtf. "lifestyle" my butt. My "lifestyle" is not the same as my hetero sibs and not the same as many of my hetero friends why the FUCK is there "lifestyle" associated with GLBT?

wanting equality, fairness, some rights is some part of a diabolical agenda in their immature minds. They just love to use their religion for persecution and hatred, they're damn good at it, been doing it for centuries and centuries, and often for their evil power plays through politics for power, control and wealth.

Oh, no, we cannot have these children seeing these GAYS in this parade. My Aunt was gay, living with her partner, and raising my cousin back in the 60s in NYC. I would assume that Boston is not that different from NYC.

Keep your children far, far away from their GAY RELATIVES????? Morons, and living in the 14th Century.

Sorry, I also love NYC but their Parade is the same exclusionary religious ritual bullshit from the same quarters that the hate in Boston comes from.
