Someone local will post it on the internet/twitter. This happened during the Bin Laden raid. Of course we didn't know it was the Bin Laden raid at the time.

The responsible party will publicize it (demands, reasons, videos, etc.). Think Daniel Pearl.

Government leak to the media. Been happening a lot, though I think it's been coming from the US because Malaysia is slow at releasing statements.

Official government statement after military action. Also happened after the Bin Laden raid.

unless it's a poor, overcontrolled country like the central Asian 'stans where access to gadgets and wi fi to use them is extremely limited and the penalty for posting anything the government doesn't like extreme.

However, this has gone on long enough that I sincerely doubt that plane is on land unless it's sticking out of one of the Himalayas. We have no idea where the guy was headed (Somalia? Uzbekistan?) and no idea of where to search a very large ocean or mountain range.

*IF* the plane landed safely, then it is probably part of hijack plot and that is probably in a location hostile to the US, conductor by actors who are hostile to the US. There were few Americans on this flight, so it isn't obvious that the US would want to conduct a rescue operation. But if they had reason to believe these are people who would attack the US later, then they might try to go after them.

But China and Russia would be making exactly those same calculations. None of them would want to tip their hand about how much they know.

If the plane did land safely somewhere, I'm betting the CIA already knows where it is.

If the US knows, they may feel like they can't say anything.

There seem to be lots of national security calculations going on. I don't think India and Pakistan ***can*** admit that they don't have proper radar coverage. Definitely the same for China and probably some others.

The US was leaking last week that the plane is at the bottom of the Southern Indian Ocean. I haven't heard anything about that this week.

I think the US would act, but they'd have to let China go first. China wants to look like the heros. If the US sends in the special forces, it might make China look weak.

You can't just hitch a 777 to the back of a pickup truck and drag it into the jungle.

(Unless you have a Toyota Tundra, if I am to believe their ads.)

depend on what country it is and their geopolitical relationship with Malaysia, China and/or the US.

And the hard part is creating the cover story for whatever really happened.
