2. I'm an American

I argue with conservatives in my family all of the time. None of them believe I don't have a right to an opinion just because I don't agree with them. I don't believe they don't have an opinion because I disagree with them, either.

We need both sides, frankly, to produce new ideas and to embrace the things that are working.

Only a fool thinks that everyone has to agree with them in order for the world to "work".

It's dangerous to give delusional ideas equal footing.

6. Oh I agree

I'm not talking about delusional conservatives like my sister, who is also an Evangelical Christian. I mean people like my mother who is a lifelong Republican, but will vote and encourage other people to vote against dangerous legislation like the personhood bill in Mississippi.

Those types of conservatives are necessary. My sister, who takes birth control and couldn't sustain a pregnancy due to heart problems, was all in favor of the personhood bill. She is so short-sighted that she doesn't see that a) if she got pregnant, she would be choosing between abortion and death and b) that the right would deny her birth control. No, I don't understand her, and I don't even try because she's a loon.

...but in ensuring the ignorance that perpetuates division - and both entities have their roots in right-wing "think" tanks.

The worst thing liberals can do is underestimate the damage - or accept delusional and hateful views as equivalent to views based on reason and fact.

14. Well, I know what I'm not.

Here are a few, just off the top of my head:

I'm not someone who thinks I can tell a woman what to do with her own body.
I'm not someone who thinks I have the right to deny equal rights to gays.
I'm not someone who believes everyone using a social program to help pay the bills and put food on the table is lazy simply refuses to work.
I'm not someone who believes in starting wars on highly questionable evidence.
I'm not someone who thinks drill, drill, drill, is the panacea for our energy needs.

I can't help but think if they might be the same ones that I saw pics of with signs
that demanded "Keep the Federal Government Out of My Health Care"

I still get a good laugh out of that one.
