This person, who I personally think has less redeeming value than a test tube of botulism, has managed to score one of the precious few hearts available for transplant.
A person who is about as undeserving, IMHO as they come.
God help us all if we ever get to a point where we start deciding based on who deserves it rather than who is the best medical match.

For the sake of whoever died and was loving enough to be an organ donor, may Dick Cheney thrive with his new heart. May he grow as a human being. May this gift cause him to change toward someone who uses his power and wealth to improve the world instead of destroy it, like he's done up to now.
And may the loved ones of the organ donor never know it was Dick Cheney.
And yes, I know I'm asking for the impossible.

(23,664 posts)but it must be in the hundreds if not thousands.
I'll never accept that a 71 year old in poor health was a better match to receive a heart than people who have been on that list far longer and have many more productive years ahead of them.
It is in fact a matter of who deserves it. If you want to speak bluntly it is a "death panel". As I understand it the decisions are made primarily on who might be a medical match for the available heart but also on the age and overall physical health of the potential recipient. I've heard that Cheney was on the recipient list for 2 months and that he was moved to the head of the list over people years younger than him who have waited a long time for a new organ.
It's entirely possible that a critically ill patient may die (or may have already died) because Cheney got the heart that he or she should have rightly recieved.

(154,021 posts)His status was bumped up as his condition worsened.
There are people who were ahead of him, as in emergency. If the tissue don't match.
Or if you have a second match out of reach for the organ to be viable.
People really need to read on how this works. And seventy something's do receive transplants these days, usually less than perfect organs that a younger person would need replaced.
Really, this place s quite horrifying right at the momemt.

(21,925 posts)It's Cheney's way of saying "I love you, man". You've just got to understand the guy.

(39,961 posts)May he actually grow a soul to go along with the heart he was given. He has been on board with the most foul, disruptive and dangerous action the United States took part in. I hope that he grows enough to realize his part in genocide, his part in lessening the United States in the world, and that his lies helped no one but Dick Cheney's ego while destroying everything he touched.
He is the foulest, most disgraceful American to ever walk this land, and that is his horrible legacy.
