Paul Ryan Falsely Claims “No Way to Know” Whether Budget Would Hurt Middle Class, Benefit Wealthy

Source: DCCC

Today on Fox News Sunday, Republican Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan (WI-01) falsely claimed he doesn’t know if the House Republican budget would result in the middle class suffering and the ultra wealthy benefitting. Ryan said, “there’s no way to know.”

In reality, the House Republican budget would give tax breaks to millionaires, billionaires and Big Oil, while cutting education, ending the Medicare guarantee and raising health care costs for seniors, and destroying American jobs. Republicans would ask the middle class and seniors to sacrifice, while refusing to ask the ultra wealthy to sacrifice at all.

FACT CHECK

Ryan’s Plan Slashes Safety Net Programs for the Poor, Lowers Taxes. “Conservative Republicans controlling the House unveiled a budget blueprint Tuesday that combines slashing cuts to safety net programs for the poor with sharply lower tax rates The GOP plan released by House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan would, if enacted into law, wrestle the deficit to a manageable size in short order, but only by cutting Medicaid, food stamps, Pell Grants and a host of other programs.” (Associated Press, 3/20/12)

...then he has no business drawing up a budget in the first place.

I'll spell it out for ya, Mr. Ryan: budgets are POLICY documents. They are written by lawmakers and they represent POLICY choices made by said lawmakers. If a lawmaker has no idea what effect his or her policies will have on various segments of the population, then he or she has NO BUSINESS WHATSOEVER drawing up laws.

It's not really much of a consolation as most people with more than 3 synapses actively firing have already figured that out.

But then, he knows damn well who it would affect, he just can't openly admit it.
