That's how much time passed before anyone in the city of Sanford or the state of Florida decided to even give the shooting death of an unarmed 17 year old kid a second look. It wasn't just Zimmerman who was hoping that this would blow over, it was the entire law enforcement community in the town of Sanford who also was hoping it would blow over. If only these officers had bothered to use that old tried and true science of investigating rather than just "going by their gut instincts" this case might already be on the trial docket and perhaps closer to providing some much needed answers for the family of Tayvon Martin and the entire community.
I have to wonder how quickly this case would have gotten media attention if the victim would have been the son of a well off judge, or state senator, or even a well to do white kid.
So much for that whole "serve and protect" thingy. I guess only when there is a large enough backlash and outcry for justice can these officers and prosecutors be compelled to "serve"
I guess those cracks in these small towns are getting wider and wider.

(17,656 posts)I was watching an interview he was giving and he said something about how they were looking for "probable cause" as his reason that Zimmerman hadn't been charged with a crime.
I guess the body laying on the ground that day wasn't considered as probable cause for an arrest.
Incredible.

(3,660 posts)I know how hard it can be to stand up and scream when you see an obvious injustice, but still feel as though you are being ridiculed by some in the national media. I hope that more and more people will continue to plan rallies and marches and keep the pressure on those that cannot be compelled by any other means to do what is right.
But yes it is a very sad "anniversary" to say the least.

Thanks!
The fact that the police totally botched this investigation infuriates me because it shows that the life of this kid meant nothing to them. I am noticing a lot of cowards on the net who keep whining about the coverage this case is getting as opposed to other cases. It baffles me that they can't seem to see that the outrage comes from the fact that Trayvon and his family weren't given a fair investigation because the police failed to do their jobs. Not to mention the killer walked away free and was never arrested or challenged. In all of the cases they post to make a point, there was an arrest made and good chance of conviction for the murderer. That wasn't the case with Trayvon and it wouldn't have been a possibility if the public hadn't caught on. I think instead of facing the reality of what happened they'd rather continue lying to themselves.
