"Birth control is for people who don’t necessarily want to act responsibly."

Here’s some Grade-A mansplaining from Alaska State Senator Pete Kelly, who thinks the way to battle Fetal Alcohol Syndrome is to distribute pregnancy tests in bars:

Q. Would you support doing the same thing with birth control? Making free birth control available in the bars?

A. No. Because the thinking is a little opposite.

This assumes that if you know (you are pregnant) you’ll act responsibly. Birth control is for people who don’t necessarily want to act responsibly.

I’m not going to tell them what to do. Or help them do it. That’s their business. But if we have a pregnancy because someone just doesn’t know, that’s probably a way we can help.

Q. But isn’t the act of using birth control, in itself, acting responsibly?

A. Maybe, maybe not.

…That’s about a level of social engineering that we don’t want to get into. All we want to do is make sure people are informed. They’ll make the right decision.

Many women take birth control even though they're not sexually active, simply to regulate irregular menstruation that would otherwise leave them bleeding and cramped far more often. And there are other medical reasons to take it.

Whatever happened to all of those Republicans who kept screaming about keeping government out from between you and your doctor? Now it seems like it's 24/7/365 'we've got to stop you from getting any medical attention that prevents women from being anything but incubators for fetii that have more rights than their 'hosts', and, btw, all sex should result in a pregnancy!'

And I said it because I know women who do use birth control for the very purpose I mentioned. The ones I know get a longer term shot, not a daily pill. I'd have to look it up, since my ob/gyn clinical rotation was a while back, but I believe there are women who do use the pill medically as well.

who like to fuck and do not want to get pregnant. (I am a former proud member of this group)

Birth control is used for certain health issues women face.

Why are all of these fucking men talking about birth control ?

I am a 60 year old female.

We have already fought these battles and won.

This fucking, dirty, female, hippie, socialist is sick of this shit !!!!!

I wouldn't fuck a Republican or Tea Party person with someone else's vagina !!!!

I took the Pill in 1960 when I was 12 years old. Yes, ignorant people, it was around then. My periods were so bad I could have ended up in the hospital having a D & C (NO FETUS) to scrape all the built up blood and have blood transfusions. As it was I had severe anemia as a LITTLE GIRL. Wicked WOMAN?

Responsible women, including MARRIED WOMEN, take the Pill.

I am waiting for one of these "men", and I use that term lightly, to suggest clitoral circumcision be enacted in the U.S.

It seems to enrage the right wing that women like having sex for the sole purpose of enjoyment.

Oh wait, 'chaste'. Not so much.

Sex is a normal and healthy part of the adult human experience. I'll take my advice from Dr Ruth, not any of these folks who want to pretend that humans can be mentally healthy while repressing natural bodily functions. (I say repressing, because there are a subset of individuals who are naturally 'asexual', with no particular sexual desires, which is also normal for them, and I don't include them in the class of 'sex is eeeeeevil' folks.)

Her children apparently didn't use any birth control, so in Mr. Kelly's opinion, were they therefore acting responsibly?

I just can't wrap my mind around that kind of doublethink. Republicans are insane.
