• I am the first African-American woman to win a gold medal in the modern Olympics.

• I was the only American woman to win an Olympic gold medal in athletics in 1948.

• I won the women's gold medal for the high jump in 1948.

"only American woman to win an Olympic gold medal in athletics in 1948"? Was "athletics" the term for "track and field" back then? What other gold medals were given out?
