Really? - A Majority Of Americans Disagree With The Affordable Care Act?......

I just heard some talking head on TV say that. Is that true?

Does that include those that wish it were a 'single payer' plan and it just didn't go far enough in their eyes? My guess is that those people are for the ACA but just wish it were stronger. Are the Repugs including these people and that is why they have come up with the meme that "a majority of Americans disagree with ACA"? If so - that is really dishonest.

If a majority of Americans disagree with ACA - why haven't the Obama Administration and the Dems done a better job at communicating and educating the American People of the benefits to them?

With no public option to control the costs and offer real competition, I object to being forced to buy.

PPACA requires individuals not covered by employer- or government-sponsored insurance plans to maintain minimal essential health insurance coverage or pay a penalty unless exempted for religious beliefs or financial hardship, a provision commonly referred to as the "individual mandate".

That is what you call "forced."

Up to $695 ($2,085 per family) in 2016 or 2.5% of your adjusted gross income, whichever is greater.

I have a choice. I can spend $5,880.00 I don't have on insurance, or be fined $700.00 I still don't have, and won't have coverage either.

I suspect it includes a group that thought it was too little, as well as those that think it went too far. There is also alot of dislike over the mandate. It's really too bad they left that in because it is the GOP's strongest talking point.

but does some bad, too. The mandate is bad. Lack of effective price controls is worse. Lack of real competition is the worst of them all.

But it's something to build on. I'm just worried that if it stands too many people are going to use that as an excuse not to solve the problems with the bill.

I am STRONGLY opposed to that provision, but would like to see most of the rest of the act preserved, and strengthened. If that is damaging to insurance companies, that's a bonus in my view and it hastens the day when single payer will replace their sorry asses. Until then, ripping the profit out of their greedy hands will do just fine.

Presently, I have a good union job and have decent, but not spectacular health insurance through my employer (PersChoice through Anthem BC in California, for those who know it, a bottom-ish tier plan for state employees in areas with few insurance choices). Prior to this, I was uninsured for about fifteen years, and before that-- now we're talking 30 years ago-- the whole health care/insurance relationship was different, but of course I was young and healthy.

One of the reasons I object to the individual mandate-- aside from my general objection about government telling me that I MUST buy the product of an industry that is the cause of the health care crisis-- I mean, that is just absurd-- but another reason is that I fear that the individual mandate will begin a period of declining employer provided health insurance, as employers find they can pass the burden off to their employees because the government now requires them to purchase insurance themselves otherwise. That takes us FURTHER away from single payer health care rather than closer to it, IMO.

That's why the so-called benefits of a for-profit health system aren't being communicated -- NOBODY WANTS THEM.
