Leaving the cities in somewhat better shape might allow them to keep the Taliban out. The Taliban might have learned a few lessons in their decade out of power, most of them 10 years older and more grown up. They'll likely be a part of any new government and that's how it should be.

I doubt if anyone in the city wants to go back to blacked out windows and widows in ripped burqas begging for food because women were forbidden to work outside the home.
