WaPo: Influential Republicans working to draft Jeb Bush into 2016 presidential race.

LAS VEGAS — Many of the Republican Party’s most powerful insiders and financiers have begun a behind-the-scenes campaign to draft former Florida governor Jeb Bush into the 2016 presidential race, courting him and his intimates and starting talks on fundraising strategy.

Concerned that the George Washington Bridge traffic scandal has damaged New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie’s political standing and alarmed by the steady rise of Sen. Rand Paul (Ky.), prominent donors, conservative leaders and longtime operatives say they consider Bush the GOP’s brightest hope to win back the White House.

Bush’s advisers insist that he is not actively exploring a candidacy and will not make a decision until at least the end of this year. But over the past few weeks, Bush has traveled the country delivering policy speeches, campaigning for Republicans ahead of the fall midterm elections, honing messages on income inequality and foreign policy, and cultivating ties with wealthy benefactors — all signals that he is considering a run.

Many if not most of 2012 GOP nominee Mitt Romney’s major donors are reaching out to Bush and his confidants with phone calls, e-mails and invitations to meet, according to interviews with 30 senior Republicans. One bundler estimated that the “vast majority” of Romney’s top 100 donors would back Bush in a competitive nomination fight.

but it wouldn't be anything like a fair election.

Who in the GOP would even dare to run against him and the BFEE?

Worse yet, who among the Democrats could defeat the Mighty Midgets?

I will add, former Governor Jeb Bush has been looking for a way to enter the race. So this is really no surprise, really.

They'll just set up stalking horses to split the loon vote and he can just hang around with tons of ca$h and an air of viability.

I still don't really expect him to go for it just quite yet though is the only thing, I think 2020 is the sweet spot for maximum voter fatigue and distance from brother with the assistance of our dummies whitewashing his trillion fuckloads of FAIL! the whole time.

He is just kind of hanging around just in case Hillary doesn't run, in which case he might jump in early thinking he might have a bird in the hand scenario but I tend to think what we are seeing is an effort for him to be seen as an acceptable participant in the conversation, image rehab and brand separation from his brother for use down the line a cycle, when I suspect he believes he will have a much better chance to be reelected, taking advantage of 12 years of Democrats emptying the toolbox of policies that could blunt his aims and 12 years of some efforts (no matter how tepid or even wrongheaded) to stabilize the economy.

All that said, fathead sucks and is selling nothing so I see no reason to loose to such a chump in any year except the the bipartisan adults in the room will mealy mouth around until the rudderless segment of the electorate votes for him because he sounds more confident and "it is time to give somebody else a chance".

and a lot of Indies as he is middle of the road Rethuglican. Frankly he worries me as I think he's the only one that could give Hillary a run for Adelson's money. The thoughts of another Bush in office makes me sick to my stomach!

What the fuck is wrong with this country? Over three-hundred million fucking people in this country (yes, I know not all are eligible for the presidency but that's not the point), and THESE are the only choices?

Wow. This is fucking pathetic.

I wish this country could wake up but it's way past the point. I'd like to say it's comatose, but it seems brain-dead.

from a Hillary Clinton fan from longer ago than most of the people on this board. Probably before anyone here (who isn't from Arkansas) ever even heard of her.

No Clinton or Bush, America!

I love Hillary, despite my hope that she will not be the nominee. Unfortunately, she is not what this country needs at this time in our history.
