Both 4 year-olds.

Petition, Advocates Help Spare 'Mickey,' Pit Bull Who Mauled 4-Year-Old Arizona Boy

PHOENIX (AP) — A Phoenix judge on Tuesday spared the life of a pit bull that mauled a 4-year-old boy last month and touched off a polarizing Internet debate on mercy, blame and animal violence.

Municipal Court Judge Deborah Griffin ruled that the dog named Mickey must be neutered, defanged and microchipped. She declared the dog vicious earlier in the day and could have ordered euthanasia.

"There would be absolutely no possibility of the animal ever doing this to someone again," Griffin said, saying the dog must remain in a facility for the rest of its life and can't be adopted.

4-year-old La. girl killed by 'monster' family pit bull; mom hospitalized
Little Mia Derouen, who would have turned 5 next week, died from face and head injuries after the family dog attacked her as she watched TV. Her mom dragged off the beast and barricaded herself and Mia in a bedroom while screaming for help.

A little girl in Louisiana was killed by her family’s pit bull, despite her mother’s frantic efforts to drag away the dog.

Mia Derouen, whose 5th birthday was next week, suffered severe facial, body and head injuries from Tuesday night’s horrendous attack and died at a nearby hospital, Houma Police Chief Todd Duplantis told WWL-TV.

He said the scene was “horrific” and that officers had to fire 13 shots into the 'monster' dog before the family pet stopped charging.

Mom Megan Touchet barricaded herself and her daughter in a bedroom, screaming for help and calling 911.

1. Not this bullshit again! If you REALLY cared about dog attacks

You wouldn't report about it only when one breed does it.

And that's just off the first page of a quick Google search.

And one more time, according to the CDC: "There is currently no accurate way to identify the number of dogs of a particular breed, and consequently no measure to determine which breeds are more likely to bite or kill."

And considering the number of dogs there are in society, the actual number of dog-related injuries is nearly insignificant. The average person is more likely to be injured or kiled by a cow, or a horse, or a bathtub. But we never see any hysterical morons campaigning to get rid of them now, do we?

15. Any breed could have done that. Any dog that is not trained can do something like that
Sun Mar 30, 2014, 05:47 PM
Mar 2014

for a variety of reasons. Dogs need to be trained properly and know that they are the lowest on the totem pole when it comes to dominance.

Who knows why the dog did it or if it was properly trained or mistreated? If one is to have any type of dog at all they should make sure it is properly trained. It's astounding how many people don't do that.

In the fifties pit bulls were known as the best family dog because of their high pain tolerance and good nature. So if a kid were to pull its tail it would be fine as it just didn't bother them that much.

4. what a heartless comment - a four-year-old is dead, and you go after the messenger

would you also argue that it was the Mother's fault that she was injured? If she had just stayed away . . . .

That fact that they celebrate whenever a child is injured by any dog that could remotely be tagged as a Pit Bull, then go out of their way & twist themselves like a pretzel in order to malign 8 million unrelated, innocent dogs & their people by implying that they are somehow culpable for these rare tragedies is a display of how sick & perverted these "messengers" are.

Only the bad shit is published about pits never the good.
I do not own a pit, I have Newfies, but I have been around many pits at dog show and kennel club functions.
There are often extenuating circumstances not reported. There also are bad dogs in any breed just like humans.
My breed, known for gentleness, has had some bad seeds that attacked people.

So of the five dogs identified, three were American Bulldogs and two were Bull Mastiffs.

Where are the attacks by the much more popular dogs?:

2013 Most Popular Dogs in the U.S. (source AKC)

1. Labrador Retriever
2. German Shepherd Dog
3. Golden Retriever
4. Beagle
5. Bulldog
6. Yorkshire Terrier
7. Boxer
8. Poodle
9. Rottweiler
10. Dachshund

And what IS an American Bulldog? In some places they ARE classified as pit bulls. They are certainly closely related.

Bull Mastiffs are banned or restricted in Ireland, Denmark, and Singapore.

American Bulldogs are banned or restricted in Arkansas, Colorado, Michigan, Washington, Denmark, Malaysia, Singapore, and Ukraine.

It should be perfectly obvious to anyone that not all breeds of dog are equally likely to attack and that not all attacks are equally likely to cause harm. Why anyone tries to dispute this is beyond me.

I'm asking because I'm trying to figure out why you are on a mission with this stuff. Other dogs attack as well and there are plenty of those reports out there too.
