Johnson has supported such victims all over the country from Washington,D.C., to Michigan to California and says the spike in immigration from such communities has been astonishing in recent years.
The number has easily quadrupled because of migration patterns, she added.
So with such numbers, why has there only been one successful prosecution in the U.S.?

(9,796 posts)Male circumcision is occasionally medically necessary and, just as we allow parents to make medical choices for their kids in most circumstances, I think they should have the option to circumcise in those rare cases where it's a legitimate medical need.

(12,022 posts)Article seems to say that most cases happen outside the country, before the girls arrive here, or over school vacations when they're sent abroad. It's hard to prosecute actions that occur outside our borders. But we can certainly remove them from families who condone such things.

(146,317 posts)whether is is happening within the US or not. The article never really said that FGM was being done here. It's confusing. Certainly such mutilations are against US law, but the article gave only examples of women who had this horror done to them elsewhere.

(4,631 posts)If these abusers are taking children out of the country to have this torture done to them and then bringing them back, there needs to be some serious punishment and removal of these offenders from society. Why would we allow people to escape 7th century barbarianism just to allow them to bring it over here with them and create communities that practice what they escaped from?
