Seriously, they did!
And doesn't Mastro remember what happened to the Jack Nicholson character who said "You can't handle the truth!" ?
Randy Mastro to Christie Report Skeptics: You Cant Handle the Truth
Randy Mastro, the man hired by New Jersey Gov. Chris Christies office to investigate the George Washington Bridge scandal, pushed back today against skeptics who say the report was an ethically compromised whitewash.
We had no incentive to do anything other than to get to the truth and I have to say this, for the skeptics out there, there are some who have a visceral reaction to this bridge controversy. Reminds me of the movie line, They cant handle the truth. We believe we got to the truth, Mastro said in an exclusive interview with ABC News George Stephanopoulos on This Week Sunday.

Christie Appointed Law Firm Is Same Group That Cleared Nixon Of Corruption Charges
By John Amato March 30, 2014 1:04 pm - Comments
Randy Mastro's law firm that cleared Gov. Christie in the Bridgegate scandal with a whitewashed report are the same firm that cleared Richard Nixon of a corruption scandal 62 years ago.
Well, lookee here, some things never change, even after 62 years. Randy Mastro is a partner at the law firm of Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher. Tasked by the governor to lead the internal review of the Bridgegate scandal, which conveniently cleared Christie of any wrongdoings in the matter. The Fix found a very interesting connection to another embattled politician trying to get out from under scandalous allegations.
It's a small world, and the political one is even smaller.
The political story that drove much of the week was the release of an internal report commissioned by New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) that determined that the governor had no prior knowledge of the apparent political payback scheme to cause a traffic jam by closing close several lanes leading to the George Washington Bridge.
But, in political circles, the firm may be best known as the one that conducted a 1952 probe into whether vice presidential candidate Richard Nixon unethically accepted gifts and financial contributions while campaigning -- a scandal that almost forced the then-senator to resign from the GOP ticket.
With the scandal swirling, GOP presidential candidate Dwight Eisenhower ordered an independent investigation -- conducted by Gibson Dunn -- which ultimately concluded that Nixon had not behaved improperly.
Armed with that conclusion, Nixon traveled to Los Angeles and delivered his now-famous "Checkers speech," a 30-minute televised addressed in which he declared he had done nothing wrong, praised the Gibson Dunn law firm as "one of the best ones in Los Angeles," and asked Americans to write letters to the RNC and voice their support for his candidacy.

(3,741 posts)The only reason Christie did this investigation was to have the tax payers cover the cost of a lawyer to go through his own email, communications, etc. - to see if there was any damaging connections to Kelly and others most closely involved with Bridgegate. Now he has all the free ammo to muster a defense in court. There was no connection that his lawyer could find and that's because there is none. This Christie is so slick that Super Glue won't stick to him. He knew to never have "dirty hands" and to stay far away from the stink of actual carrying out of the unlawful scheme. He would get his yucks later, over dinner, with those trusted henchmen. Nothing on the record, EVER. He was a Fed. Prosecutor for fracks sake - he learned how to be corrupt without getting caught. The only way he will ever be connected is if certain persons talk - give Kelly amenity. She is ready to sing. It's worth it. Finally, I think the Gov looks in ill health. His weight loss surgery (also paid for by the NJ tax payers) is not working very well. Check out any recent press appearance and it is obvious. He may very well suffer some medical problem from all the stress. Heat attack? Is it all worth it Christie? He should resign.

(44,576 posts)since all of this started. He's eating too much again, out of either guilt or stress.
And with Samson out, he's in even more danger. Allowing Samson to run the PA while he was also running a law firm that does business with the PA is impeachable enough in itself.

(2,419 posts)because its one thing for Mastro to say he worked hard on this report. Its one thing to say they reviewed all available evidence. To say they had the access that THEY wanted. That's all fine. However, the didn't interview Stepien, Kelly, Baroni, Wildstein or Samson. Every time there was a factual hole, they filled it with inferences-each one drawn in favor of Christie. If you are being an advocate you can make your arguments with these voids. However, if you are an honest evaluator of the facts, which they purport to be, there is no way you should feel comfortable with the report's conclusions, simply because there are so many uncertainties. Its one thing to make an argument on behalf of your client-one that's in their best interests. Its quite another to try to sell a report prepared on that basis, and whose conclusions are based on so many favorable assumptions and inferences, is an objective and honest evaluation. It doesn't pass the smell test.
