Mine is a story about a teenage single mother who struggled to keep her young family afloat. Its a story about a young woman who was given a precious opportunity to work her way up in the world. Its a story about resiliency, and sacrifice, and perseverance.
And youre damn right its a true story.
Throughout this campaign, Ive shared that story not because its unique, but because it isnt.
The story of my life is also the story of millions of single mothers who feel alone in the world, millions of young dreamers searching for their chance to become something more than what they were born into, millions of families all across Texas who would sacrifice everything to give their children a better future.
Its those stories your stories that drive this campaign. But Greg Abbott and his allies dont want to hear them. They dont have anything to offer Texans who find themselves in the same difficult situation I was in when I was young. They would slam the doors I walked through and pull up the ladders I was lucky to be able to climb.
And now, instead of offering real ideas to improve your life, theyre attacking mine.
It wont work. The only thing Greg Abbott and his allies have proved with these desperate attacks is that they dont understand what it means to live a life like mine a life like that of so many people all across our state.
They dont know me and, whats more important, they dont know you.
Im not surprised that the Abbott campaign would resort to attacking the story of a single mother who worked hard to get ahead.
And Im not afraid of their false attacks I developed thick skin long before anyone knew my name.
What I am is deeply proud of the life Ive built and the daughters Ive raised and deeply grateful to the many, many people who have shared their stories and offered their support as Ive traveled our state.
No false attack can take away my story. And no sleazy political trick will stop me from giving voice to yours.
Your stories are why Im running for Governor. And together, I know well make sure that the Texas we leave to our children is a place where every young mother can build a better life for her child. . . where every family can work their way up the economic ladder. . . where every Texan can achieve their dreams and live out their own success story.

(35,015 posts)They know she has a chance to defeat Abbott, and they're terrified. Wendy is smart, gutsy and knows that the harder they attack, the closer she is to becoming the next Democratic woman Governor of Texas. I think Ann Richards would be proud of her!

(26,622 posts)but I know a few who are sick of the crap and voting for Wendy (even Republicans.)
One cousin, a teacher, has been posting on fb about the sorry state of education in Texas. She gets quite a bit of resistance from "friends" One actually said "we need someone to pick the oranges."
Cousin Margaret answered gently, "I respect all working people, especially those who provide us with good things in life, like oranges. The point is, not that one needs a great education to pick oranges, but that an education usually means a happier, healthier life. Reading to your children, or just reading, understanding the world we live in, and meaningful communication with other human beings; those are the benefits of educated people."
You bet she's voting for Wendy, and so is Aunt Bonnie in El Paso, but she's always been true blue.
