So what was the torture program about?

For years even some critics of the torture program pushed the line that it was enacted in good faith. Just a desperate bunch of patriots who were trying to protect the homeland. They were panicked. They meant well.

It turns out (as many people knew based on available public information) that the torture program advocates were full of shit. The program's success was based on lies and the ability to classify the truth.

My guess is that in large part the torture program was intended to buttress "tough on terror" propaganda.

Some sicko freak thought up the idea and sold it to the neo-cons. They got help learning disgusting torture techniques from weirdos outside the country, weirdos who come from countries that torture.

These are the guys training our police and military.

...It's the powers-that-be call the tune.
They want all of us up for the dancing,
All howling away at the moon.

And I understand how that can happen
I don't need to ask anyone why.
It's September and I can't help but thinking...

The U.S. lost all sense of morality in the fear that followed 9/11.

Anni DeFranco's song Subdivision captured the mentality:

So we're led by denial like lambs to the slaughter
Serving empires of style and carbonated sugar water
And the old farm road's a four-lane that leads to the mall
And my dreams are all guillotines waiting to fall

And I wonder then, what it will take for my country to rise
First we admit our mistakes and then we open our eyes
'Til our nation's last taker succumbs to one last dumb decision
And America The Beautiful is just one big subdivision

Its very difficult these days to believe in any kind of nobility and honor among mankind.

Its just a madman struggle for resources, which are finite. Examples? We cannot find a missing plane because our oceans are full of trash.

So why wouldn't people torture other people for various reasons? Torture works, just ask Bush, Cheney and the CIA.
