Koch meme. I read this somewhere today and I don't know where. Anyhow I think it is

important enough that you'll forgive my unattributed paraphrased idea.

The Koch brothers are richer than god. The only thing they cannot buy unlimited amounts of is freedom to do anything they want because there are laws we all follow so we can live together. No wonder they are upset.

that it is taking this much time and their precious money to corrupt and purchase our political system. They own the tea party, the republican party, part of the democratic party and it looks like five of the nine justices on what used to be known as the Supreme Court. I truly believe that people with vast fortunes have little patience and basically want everything now and cannot understand why not. They think it is part of their privileged existence.

don't want to be told how to live in any way, by any law or regulation...except when it comes to laws to protect their precious billions and other property.

What's actually surprising is how open they've become about it. They used to be very low-profile about it, but either they finally couldn't maintain that, or just stopped trying to.

Funding think tanks and organizations like ALEC and the Federalist Society isn't the stuff of rich gadflys, it's the same sort of strategic empire-building they've used to balloon their company.

They have more money than they or their next several generations could ever think of spending. They and many of those like them believe that they should answer to no one because of their wealth and status. They believe they are royalty and entitled to make the rules and laws, not us peons. The Constitution, the rights and laws that have been enacted to help and protect average Americans, are just obstacles to be overcome by being litigated away, bought or destroyed by "other methods" if necessary.
The GOP has been working tirelessly for years to clear the path for people like the Koch's and their corporations to get to this point. These people know what they want. That is why it is ridiculous to think they can be bargained with, appeased or made to see the light of "democracy". They need to be stopped and then rendered unable to continue what they are doing. That's the only thing they will understand.

to Digby's Hullabaloo.

He simply cannot understand why anyone would think there is a need for government functions beyond the most rudimentary form of security. After all, Charles Koch doesn't need them. In fact, he thinks they hurt him. If they didn't exist he would have more freedom, which is the only thing he could possibly believe he doesn't have enough of in this world. (Sometimes I think these guys confuse freedom with time, but that's another story ...) He's just a regular guy like you and me, right? We'll all be free if only the government would take its jackbooted foot off the necks of good job-creators like the Koch Brothers.

It always amuses me to see billionaires talk about "those in power" as if it's someone other than themselves. I'd love to see Charles Koch have to spend a month in the life of a secretary who works in one of his offices. Then let's see what he thinks about "power" and "freedom" and who has it and who doesn't.
