while we were in Portland. It is an excellent movie and I would recommend anyone to go see it!
In a part of the movie, there is a clip of Ronald Reagan as governor of California bitching about how immoral Chavez and Robert Kennedy and the grape boycott is. You should have seen the clip, the venom in his voice and hatred on his face was clearly evident.
My wife who was with me leaned over and whispered, "I wouldn't be surprised if Reagan had something to do with Robert's assassination." I had never thought about that. I was really young and wasn't too cognizant of all the nuances of politics and the news plus, I was living in Germany at the time. DU'ers what do you think? Do think there is a possibility that the old fuck wad could have been complicit either by commission or omission in the RFK assassination? I know it may seem like a dumb question, but she got me to thinking.

(50,254 posts)But Reagan was more likely the beneficiary, rather than a plotter(can you picture him personally plotting ANYTHING?)
Nixon seems more plausible(possibly in collusion with LBJ, since Bobby had forced Johnson out of the race and was the only Democrat with a realistic chance of getting nominated who had a real shot at stopping ol' Milhous).
I always kind of figured that, once LBJ knew he wouldn't get another term, he was bound and determined to make sure NO Democrat would replace him. That, to my mind, is the most plausible explanation for his insistence of forcing Humphrey to defend the war in his campaign speeches all the way to Chicago(since he knew Humphrey would make himself unelectable by doing that).

(6,719 posts)and agree with you that it is worth seeing. I recommend it also. Re Reagan, I don't know. Hate has many forms. The growers and the politicians were definitely not on the side of the workers but that is nothing new then or now. I'll be interested to see what others have to say.

(26,623 posts)not so much for RFK. what that blow did to all of us; proved once and for all, true liberals who capture the imagination of the people, who are popular, even loved, by the people, will no longer be allowed to survive in America. If character assassination won't do it, there's the real deal.
Yeah, I could believe Reagan was behind it. Probably silly, but the way things turned out...

(118,295 posts)His job was never to decide what happened: it was to deflect attention from whatever the boys were actually doing behind his caravan, a matter with which he never much concerned himself
Ronnie stood up and spoke sonorously, and when too many people tried to peek in back, he'd razzle-dazzle some controversy so everybody would run around front again to see what all the commotion was
In the 80s, I spent far too much time paying attention to Ronnie and far too little time attending to the creeps and thugs back behind his caravan: it was hard not to, because he was good at it:
