The baby boomers had John F. Kennedyyoung, charismatic, and TV ready.
Forty years later, Barack Obama was supposed to herald in a new generation, one globalized and beyond the narrow box-checking racial and ethnic categories, and, as he put it, beyond the cultural-war campus debates from the 60s.
Now those hashtag lovin, meme generatin, self-obsessin millennials may have found a political candidate of their own.
Shenna Bellows is 39. I just look 18, she says. She spent the last eight years as executive director of the Maine Civil Liberties Union, and, prior to that, ran up a résumé familiar to many community-minded millennials: Middlebury College, Peace Corps in Panama, Vista Corps in a housing project in Nashville.

(13,141 posts)The strangest episode of Pauls time at Baylor occurred one afternoon in 1983 (although memories about all of these events are understandably a bit hazy, so the date might be slightly off), when he and a NoZe brother paid a visit to a female student who was one of Pauls teammates on the Baylor swim team. According to this woman, who requested anonymity because of her current job as a clinical psychologist, He and Randy came to my house, they knocked on my door, and then they blindfolded me, tied me up, and put me in their car. They took me to their apartment and tried to force me to take bong hits. Theyd been smoking pot. After the woman refused to smoke with them, Paul and his friend put her back in their car and drove to the countryside outside of Waco, where they stopped near a creek. They told me their god was Aqua Buddha and that I needed to bow down and worship him, the woman recalls. They blindfolded me and made me bow down to Aqua Buddha in the creek. I had to say, I worship you Aqua Buddha, I worship you. At Baylor, there were people actively going around trying to save you and we had to go to chapel, so worshiping idols was a big no-no.

Anti NSA, hopefully anti CIA also. Those institutions need to go, their criminal records demonstrate that they are out of control and appear to be operating as a separate 'branch' of this government.
Thanks for the link, this will be an exciting race to watch.

(62,325 posts)Private Security Contractors. It is insane that our national security has been privatized. The incentive that a for profit Security Contractor has to create phony threats is so enormous, it is astounding this was ever allowed to happen.

Third Way neoliberals will use social issues as a "carrot on a stick" to maintain the status quo of rule by the 1%, and continue the polarization of wealth and power so that the wealth, power, and control of the 1% can continue to grow at obscene rates.
While a Third Way neoliberal is better than a republican, it is imperative that we nominate and elect sincere progressive FDR type Democrats in unprecedented numbers.

At worst, way better than Susan Collins and potentially way better than most that we have now.

Then, only DU's "cheerleaders" and "Yay Team!!" posters will continue to support her.

(62,325 posts)Did you support the Democratic Candidate in the NJ Governor's election by any chance? I didn't notice too many 'cheerleaders or the yay team' objecting to the Dem Party supporting the Republican Christie, going so far as almost the entire elected Dem Party in NJ endorsing him despite the outcry from the 'perpetually outraged'. Not the first either the Party supported a Republican. Don't remember much 'cheerleading' for the Dem in those races, here on DU as a matter of fact, EXCEPT from the PERPETUALLY OUTRAGED.
When there is some consistency on this matter of 'cheerleading' and the 'perpetually outraged' who supported BOTH Democrats in both of those races, feel free to offer your advice, until then we of a the perpetually outraged class will continue to replace Republicans and Dinos wherever we can.
