This is going down the road of The Patriot Act is bad. Mark my words. And the RW ain't going to like it. Make some popcorn and get ready for the show (the movie AND the backlash). What will make it especially fun is that they are going to have to criticize the Captain Frickin' America. The cognitive dissonance will be delicious.
Edited to add: Review from Nerdist that touches on some of what will make the RW looneys mad).

(22,340 posts)Is it worth seeing in the theatre? I'm a huge Marvel comic fan, but Captain America is not at the top of the list (I do read several of the Avenger comics so I read stuff with Captain America). Thor is my homeboy so I saw that opening night.

(16,399 posts)I was not a fan of the first CA movie, but this one places third for me in the Marvel series behind the first Iron Man and Avengers now. And I liked Thor 2 The Dark World and placed it third until last night.
Lots of Black Widow kicking ass and the Falcon has real potential. Plus a ton of SHIELD back story revealed as you probably gathered from the article.
I would advise not seeing it in 3D. The action scenes are just too fast for it.

(22,340 posts)I would order first Iron Man, Thor 2 (Thor geek), and then Avengers. Loved the silver comic feel of the Thor 2 plot line. And I'm a sucker for Lady Sif.
I'm torn on Black Widow. I like her but it seems like there are more higher level Avengers they could develop (I know why she's in there--I'm not stupid).

(16,399 posts)The next potential female Avenger turns up.
I really feel like a Black Widow stand alone is going to happen. Maybe use Hawkeye in it as the secondary hero like she is in this one. There's a sight gag at one point in the film that tips off more of their relationship.

I'd be happy with She-Hulk, too. Somebody sassy.
I am amazed at the people that leave before the end credits at a Marvel film.

(16,399 posts)I even stay for the end END credits sequence, which is often worthless comedy. This time it's slightly more dramatic, though not that revealing.

(25,941 posts)the plot involves a government conspiracy (lest we forget, the big, bad gummint is currently headed by an Islamic Kenyan commie, yunno), so the RWNJs may well identify with Captain America et al. If this had come out during the years when Commander Cokespoon was in office, the reaction may well have been different.

(19,497 posts)The Marvel Civil War series was predicated on the government forcing super-powered individuals to register themselves. The books depicted some Tea party-esque types screaming about super-powered people as an analogy for racial bigotry but most RWers sympathized with the anti-registration faction of the series seeing a stronger analogy in gun registration and government overreach.

(5,066 posts)I am more a X-men fan.I call my favorate comcis X-Men,Spider-man and Batman. At times I can be critical of Marvel studios considering how much I disliked Iron Man 3 and my weak responses to Thor films but I consider WS to be best MS film beating the avengers and
First Iron man. It is miles away better than first cap film.
It takes jab at the government needs more to stop threats before they happen.
This Is Scarlett Johansson and Samuel L Jackson's best film In MS films. They In film alone will cause RW to go a bit crazy
Robert Redford's casting Is brillent and this Is throwback to 1970's thrillers. His casting was a coup.

PoliticAverse
(26,366 posts)There are currently no plans to screen Captain America: The Winter Soldier at the White House, as far as the film's directors have heard. But if it makes it to the White House family theater, President Obama would be watching one big-budget, action-packed, and Scarlett Johansson-starring critique of his controversial terror-suspect "kill list."
This isn't me reading things into a mainstream comic-book movie. It's what the directors themselves will tell you.
"[Marvel] said they wanted to make a political thriller," Joe Russo, who directed the film with his brother Anthony, tells Mother Jones. "So we said if you want to make a political thriller, all the great political thrillers have very current issues in them that reflect the anxiety of the audience...That gives it an immediacy, it makes it relevant. So [Anthony] and I just looked at the issues that were causing anxiety for us, because we read a lot and are politically inclined. And a lot of that stuff had to do with civil liberties issues, drone strikes, the president's kill list, preemptive technology"all themes they worked into the film, working closely with screenwriters Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely.
