I don't know about you but I for one am sick and tired of being sick and tired of hearing how our Democracy is dead.
Is it under heavy attack by a few soul-less jackals?
Fuck yes!
The thing is, is that us real by gawd merkins don't roll over and show their belly like a pack of cur pups!
We. Fight. Back.
There's way more of us than them. We can all do our part to send these leeches back into the cesspool from whence they came.
Educate. Irritate. Eradicate.

(26,648 posts)only white, male, landowners could vote. It took bloody long enough and plenty of blood spilled too, but we have been moving towards democracy relatively quickly. We're not there yet, and this is a setback, but we're a lot further than where we started. That said, we have a long way to go, and we better stay involved.
Deep13
(39,154 posts)So increased participation in that system is also not democratic. Yes, more people are allowed to vote for which multimillionaires will represent us, but who we are allowed to voted for is determined by those with money--both in terms of available candidates and geography. How come CA, where 1/5 of all Americans live has the same Senate representation as Wyoming, where almost none of them live? And there is no one to prevent someone who wins through dirty tricks by the skin of his teeth from causing a global disaster. The simple fact is we have no say in most of the important decisions that affects us. All this also assumes that power resides in the hands of elected officials. Obviously, it doesn't. Most of us are virtual slaves to our bosses. Those folks have real power over us and almost no accountability.
dionysus
(26,467 posts)mountain grammy
(26,648 posts)you make some points, but that's our government "by the people." More participation is more democracy, just ask anyone anywhere who doesn't have it, and we keep fighting for more. Ask an African American who can now sit at any lunch counter or a happily married gay couple, or a teenage girl who has school sports if we have "no say in most of the important decisions that affect us." These are tiny examples representing a much bigger picture, but, the point is, we give up our "say" when we give up.

Putin was partly behind it (he was young).
Obama's error made it all possible (the attack never would have happened

pinboy3niner
(53,339 posts)Google is my first go-to if I don't understand something posted.
And if a correction is warranted, I consider whether posting it would embarass the OP author or if a PM suggesting an edit would be better. If possible to post a good-natured, humorous correction that will be taken in that spirit, fine. If not, PM.

But I saw this fellow from Illinois, an Afro American, run for President and win.
So..he wins...short time later (by political terms)..this fellow proposes and gets passed a health care program, that is imperfect too, but..it got passed and approved by the Supreme Court, and l read over 7 million signed up, and 2 or 3 million got covered that wouldn't have been covered if this had not passed.
Yes, the tide changed since then, and it can change again. . No one knows. The enemy has made complete fools of themselves with their hatred of that law, and that President. Many who need this insurance, and will use it, and save lives, will come to our side. It may take some time, but I believe that will happen...sometimes Democracy takes a rest, but returns. I never, never thought they would get Nixon. Impossible I thought. Who knows what positive stuff can happen. Like I said, the guy from Illinois actually won in spite of the stupid ass right wing.
Oh...I guess I took this too seriously...but that is ok, aint the first time, and won't be the last..
