And while this wouldn't be the first time that someone emulated the famous toy, this is the first time that GQ magazine has taken readers inside the mind of the controversial 28-year-old.

"For example, a Russian marries an Armenian, they have a kid, a cute girl, but she has her dad's nose. She goes and files it down a little, and it's all good. Ethnicities are mixing now, so there's degeneration, and it didn't used to be like that," she told the publication.
"Remember how many beautiful women there were in the 1950s and 1960s, without any surgery? And now, thanks to degeneration, we have this. I love this Nordic image of myself. I have white skin; I am a Nordic typeperhaps a little Eastern Baltic, but closer to Nordic."

The mix race kids I've seen have been outrageously good looking.

Traffic-stopping good looks.
I guess they don't have too many of those in East Borschtistan, or wherever this chick is from.
Personally, I look at pictures of people back in the day and I think a significant percent of them look wonky in a way that most modern people don't, and I think it's a result of bringing different bloodlines together. Your ancestors live in the same village for a thousand years, you're not going to look so good.
DebJ
(7,699 posts)I do family ancestry research when I have time, and I warned my daughter in Northern Virginia to not ever allow her children
to date anyone born in Culpeper Va. I am sure we are bloodline related to about 90% of that town. I have found a double cousin
who lives in Baltimore from that family line. And I've no doubt after all that intermingling down there the town votes Republicon.

(113,541 posts)some reason, all I can think of is cher (and this is not a slam at cher, I happen to like her)
DesertFlower
(11,649 posts)the original cher was much more attractive. all she had to do was fix her teeth. i tend to remember cher was one of the first women to puff up her lips. i've been told that i look like cher and i always respond "i hope you mean the cher before the plastic surgery".
that being said i've had some work done -- nothing that changed the way i look -- had a facelift and eyes done, but no one would know because i look natural. now it's just botox and fillers.
my nose is kind of big but it's my nose. if it were a big "honker" i would have had it done.
i think barbara walters has had great plastic surgery. she's 83 but she looks natural. she admits to having work done and has said "be careful with botox -- don't do too much".

(22,000 posts)I don't agree with it, but having been in South Korea for 10 years I've heard stuff like this before. Some (not all) Koreans see that as important to maintaining their heritage. There are two problems though: 1) Because of the favoritism of having boys over girls there are more males than females which means men (particularly in the rural areas) have a hard time finding a wife; and 2) A declining birthrate. The last time I checked I believe it was 1.21 births per 1,000 women (2.1 is needed to maintain the population). More Koreans are marrying foreigners (both westerners and other people from other Asian countries). Men in rural areas are "buying" brides from poorer Asian countries (yes, this is atrocious) Some Korean men and women are marrying westerners (my wife is Korean).
I was just on a message board the other day for foreigners in Korea and saw something posted by another foreigner where he was describing his experience with a Korean calling his son a "half-breed". Now whether that's a language issues (as in the person did not know the correct terminology) or something else I can't say for sure. I'll tell you he wasn't happy about it.

(118,332 posts)Raise your hand if you expected her to remind you of Joan of Arc? Nobody?
Well, how about Queen Elizabeth the First of England? Did you expect her to remind you of Queen Elizabeth? No votes there either?
Anybody expecting her to remind you of Harriet Tubman? Hands up high now! No?
Anyone expecting to be reminded of Clara Barton? Not a single vote yet?
Annie Oakley? Anyone expecting she'd be like Annie Oakley? Nobody?
Come on, people! This is Barbie we're talking about! She looks like Barbie! She's put lots of time into looking like Barbie! That's got to be worth something!
Put your hand up if you thought she'd remind you of Nellie Bly! Come on! Nellie Bly! No?
Marie Curie? Nobody?
Ida B. Wells? Anybody? No?
Maria Montessori? Get those hands up if she reminds you of Maria Montessori! No votes?
Helen Keller? Anybody for Helen Keller? How about Eleanor Roosevelt? Margaret Mead? Marian Anderson? Rachel Carson? Golda Meir? Jane Goodall?
Look, she's put in a lot of time and energy, trying to become who she is! She must remind you of somebody!

(48,955 posts)The only other time I have read about her (within the past month, I believe on huff post) was that she subscribes to a belief that she can get most of the nutrients she needs through breathing.
That struck me as dangerous to self - and not terribly big on critical thinking. After that first impression, this is not surprising.
I file in the category of... "so what".
Not representative of a broad view (how many people believe in "air diets?), and contradictory in nature (claiming to "heritage lines" as the cause for her "barbie likeness" - while decrying joining of "heritage lines" {re :interracial marriages"})
Strange, but not noteworthy, imo.

One thing's certain, though: every single ethnic group/race produces its share of beautiful humans, no surgery needed. At least the little bubblehead got that right.

(32,886 posts)Many places in the world are MUCH more ethnocentric than we are. Russia is one of the worst, Asian countries (particularly Japan, China and the Koreas) also tend to be very ethnocentric and anti-mixing.
To answer the question in the OP of "How people get like this..." I would say 95% of Russia is like this. Maybe higher. There is a reason Jews have wanted to emigrate out of there for the last 60 years. You would have thought the German invasion of the 1940s and subsequent treatment of ethnic slavs in Russia and elsewhere by the Nazis as 'untermenschen' would have given the people of Russia a perspective of how ethnocentrism is a bad thing but it didnt seem to have an impact.
