Southern Arizona @ 9000 feet. Oldest continuously staffed lookout in US (since 1928). On the National Register of Historic Places. Located in designated wilderness area.
I'll be posting most of my photos in the Photography Group. From time to time I'll post alerts here if I put something really good in Photography.

(86,771 posts)Big change from the past few years!
Have a neighbor who does airtac... hikes that area sometimes, says he anticipates a big fire year down there. He's heading down there to visit family soon, maybe you'll be in touch during the season.
Have a great summer, hope it doesn't get to hot. Can't wait to see this year's pictures.

(32,324 posts)Will you stay cool at the 9,000 foot elevation, or does it heat up like everything else there in Arizona?
DemoTex
(25,400 posts)Thanks to the dry adiabatic lapse rate of 3*F/2*C per 1000 feet.

(154,021 posts)It is dry and hot. They are already dispatching the kitchen sink at the smallest hint of a fire, even one that from google map I knew was a dud today. There is at best ten square feet of veg in that spot. But while urban, they know sparks can start a structure fire.
Humidity is down to 5% or less. Midday temp in the back country was 95+ and wind advisory, tomorrow might be warning. And circulation, late August, early Sept, all the way to the circular air circ.
This might affect where you are, the back is on the dessert floor, into Imperial. Still geographically far from you, but that is what it is doing.
We are getting near ideal for an explosive firestorm by the way. But hey, when it happens DU can watch pretty film on CNN.

(51,076 posts)personally I believe you make your own luck. What I'm happy for is knowing it is people like you who are actually watching over us. In that I find much comfort. Thank you
Happy trails and keep on adding the numbers up, I believe it would be 67 now, am I right

(23,156 posts)I was up on Mt Lemmon for a couple of nights last October for astronomy camp. You could try contacting Dr. Don McCarthy at the University of Arizona and I bet you could get to visit some of the telescopes there and on Mt. Bigelow nearby.

(1,269 posts)We get hawks, falcons, and just recently some eagles - on Ohio river. The eagles are the best, they fly so
incredibly high. They just hang in the sky, like dots, almost, but you can feel their power. And they have that beautiful scree.
You'd be straight at bird's eye. How cool.

Beautiful photos!
