Grunge band Nirvana have been enlisted to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, alongside the likes of Kiss and Beatles manager Brian Epstein.
REM's Michael Stipe inducted the group, saying: "Nirvana tapped into a voice that was yearning to be heard.
The band's career was cut short by Kurt Cobain's death in 1994. His widow, Courtney Love, attended the ceremony.

(25,941 posts)Enough with the furshlugginer hair bands already!
I've seen a clip from the now-defunct Headbangers Ball featuring fresh, new artists Kurt Cobain and Dave Grohl from the band Nirvana. Dave Grohl was in a tux and Kurt Cobain was in a ladies' evening gown. The humor seemed lost on the clueless host (it's a *ball*, ya lummox!).

(12,778 posts)I've always said that Kurt Cobain was to my generation what Elvis Presley was to my mom's. This, of course, irritates my mom to no end.

Hendrix had only four albums.
Sad to think how much music we lost by these premature deaths

I can't believe this was twenty years ago. (back when the "M" in MTV meant MUSIC)

Just Google at a list of who is in and who isn't.

Still plenty of people to induct..

(33,582 posts)plenty of deserving groups and people who have been eligible for years are not in.
But ABBA and people who have nothing to do with Rock or had just one hit are.

(34,170 posts)Its a documentary on that group of musicians that included Nirvana just before and as they broke through to the masses. There's lots of Sonic Youth, but also Dinosaur Jr, Babes In Toyland, The Ramones and Gumball

The fact that Sonic Youth and the Pixies aren't in proves it's a joke. Nirvana has even cited the Pixies as one of their main influences.

I don't have a big issue with the HOF. I take it for what it is. I think most of the people who do have issues with it do so because a band they love isn't in it, which is odd since most of those same people say the HOF is a joke. I'm not sure I would give a shit if I were them. It's a subject that seems to elicit a lot of anger in some, which is bizarre to me.
I've been a fan since 1991. I'm just glad people are talking and writing about Kurt and the band again and I enjoyed the performances last night.

(6,228 posts)I loved all the bands of that time, but Pearl Jam was my favorite. I always thought Cobain was an asshole for the way he treated Pearl Jam. As time has passed and I have seen how principaled Eddie Vedder is and how he was used his wallet to speak out against the system (while creating kick ass music), the only conclusion I can come to is Cobain realized how much better Vedder/Pearl Jam was/were.

(1,348 posts)I feel the same way about Guns and Roses for the same reasons. Only difference is there was never a reconciliation to that fued like there was between PJ and Nirvana.
Ahh the feud talk makes me quite nostalgic. It was so fun to follow back in the day.

(6,228 posts)I think what bugged me was how wrong they were. He accused PJ of selling out. This is the band that would not produce video's for MTV, would not tour and boycotted ticketmaster, accepted an award for Spin the Black Circle solely for his deceased father while telling the establishment off. In short, they were the complete opposite of what they were accused of.

(35,961 posts)I put it down to Kurt Cobain being a wanker, or the male version of Courtney Love. He just didn't know wtf he was talking about when he slagged off Pearl Jam...
btw, I always like showing this to fellow Pearl Jam fans. A thoughtful and insightful review of Pearl Jam's first 20 years. It's actually pretty funny

(27,670 posts)it was because the drummer in our band came to rehearsal totally excited, waving a copy of Nevermind and said "Dudes! You really, really gotta hear this!". At the time I thought it was the most refreshing and passionate sound I'd heard in years.
Soon after that, our band moved to the Seattle area, as did half the other bands in the Northwest. By 1994, there was a guitar player living in every dumpster in Seattle.
Here's a classic from a lesser known but very talented Seattle area band whose demise resulted from a deadly heroin overdose of a beautiful rising star.

(2,273 posts)I got the album because Dale Crover played drums on some of the songs but I was not exactly excited about it. Never got into Nirvana really, they sounded too produced when Smells Like Teen Spirit came out.
