“12 Years a Slave” and the GOP

A few days ago I saw “12 Years a Slave.” It’s a difficult film to watch and has been haunting me ever since. Not that I didn’t know about the atrocities of slavery, but it’s one thing to be aware of the past and another to see the horrors so vividly reenacted.

I have found myself wondering what teabaggers and other far right wing Republicans think of this film (assuming any of them have seen it). The bigotry in the GOP has been front and center ever since Obama was elected. We’ve seen him (and others in his administration) savaged by the Republicans, and there’s no doubt in my mind that racism is one of their driving motives.

But to get back to “12 Years a Slave,” I wonder if any of the wingnuts think of slavery as “the good old days.” Voter suppression laws that have been passed in many states are nothing more than a return to Jim Crow. And I can’t help but wonder how many wingnuts would be all for a return to slavery.

Perhaps my thoughts on this are off the deep end, nonetheless …

I’d like to hear your opinions regarding the GOP and their racism, whether you've seen the film or not.

outspoken views. I've never watched them, (can't avoid the commercials for them), but I suppose there's enough rednecks watching to keep them on the air.

Those people just want blacks and minorities "in their place". Which is NOT in the voting booth. Or the White House.

Besides, slavery was expensive. Wage-slaves are cheaper...don't have to feed or house them, and the taxpayer picks up part of the tab.....
