by Samantha Field
My back was pressed up against plexiglass, a wall of windows facing out into the hallway. I was on display, an exhibit for other college students to peer at as they walked to their classes.
The counselor opened up a cabinet behind her -- it was stuffed with off-brand tissue boxes, and I wondered if that was all she had in those cabinets. She set a box on her desk, within my reach.
How is the wedding planning going?
Were not getting married anymore," I told her. "He called it off.
My ex was smacking his lips, brownie crumbs on the corners of his mouth. He looked at me and told me: I just cant trust that youre going to be a godly, submissive wife. I cringed.

What a horrendous thing. No person, NO ONE should have to go through that.

(1,363 posts)You kidding? What kind of person, definitely not a man....would even say something like this? He needs to come to old Doxydad's boot camp for ass bags. No really. I'll make him into a person who respects women. Or die trying.

(23,272 posts)I can't remember who they are anymore but basically he said he thought schools with segregated dorms, no frats, no alcohol etc (like the military universities and obviously this college in the OP) would be "safer". So I'm kicking this and highlighting this part for them to see that making the rules stricter doesn't change rape culture.
"I enrolled there because my family and I honestly believed that I would be safe there. We believed that the dangers present at secular colleges were absent from PCCs campus -- there was no partying, no drinking, no drugs, and most especially no sex.
The reality was much different and much harsher. I wasnt safe. At all.
Over the years that I was in a relationship with another PCC student, I was manipulated, verbally attacked, physically abused, sexually assaulted and raped. When I finally -- finally -- had the courage to tell my ex that he couldnt call me a goddamn f**king bitch anymore, he broke our engagement two weeks later."

(10,745 posts)Why is it, in some people's minds, that a woman should have to "repent" for a wrong that was not only committed by another person, but one that was directed towards her at that?!?!
It'd be like an African-American geek being beat up and getting called the N word by racist white jocks at some university and the faculty basically tells the victim that HE is responsible for THEIR racist remarks, and THEIR violence, etc. Or a lesbian gets bullied by Teabaggers and is constantly sexually harassed, but they get off scot-free while *she* is forced to apologize to THEM for what THEY did, just because she's the so-called "other".
Samantha, I am SO sorry this stuff happened to you. What that asshole did was dead wrong no matter the half-baked excuses offered up by the staff. FUCK the liars, misogynists, etc. at Pensacola "Christian" College.
