(31,825 posts)Telecom is 24 x 7. Unless we are going to block customers from making and receiving calls, sending and receiving text messages, browsing, app play, etc. etc. - it can't happen in my business.
Do I think our Admins should be immune to that?
Yep.
But when I managed outside of the US wireless products -there's no way I could shut off my email/text messages after hours.
Like clockwork - Cannes Film Festival. Something breaks. High profile people whine. 2:00 a.m. I was up dealing with tipping point issues.
Should our admin for our team been up then? Nope. I never would have asked her to do that. But I expected my network liason and global travel experts to be up with me and managing the product. And their annual bonuses, salary, and raises reflected their efforts.

(4,452 posts)THEN having your pager or cell phone wake you at 1:00AM and spending the next 3 hours trying to solve someones problem knowing you only have two hours to get ready for the days work.
I don't disagree with the legislation per se but I would have it be an agreement on employment that off hours work would be compensated.
I did it for years, without (much) complaint because I saw my job as solving customer problems. My employer was just the middle man. But it may be a big part of the reason I'm no longer married.
If I had my choice I'd rather have my off hours off and still have a wife.
I don't know where or how the rumor about France banning after work hours email began but, apparently "it ain't necessarily true."

Will never happen.
