Govt backs down enforcing the law because of right wing nuts

The govt should not simply back off this crackpot and his lunatic posse. Slap a lien on his property for back dues owed the govt. If the govt doesn't want worse than this rebellion, they need to do something about this idiot.

The U.S. Bureau of Land Management announced today that it was ending its effort to seize Cliven Bundy’s herd of cattle that has been illegally grazing on federal land. The reason the BLM suspended the cattle round up was to protect the safety of federal employees and members of the general public. Bundy and a smattering of his right-wing supporters have threatened to wage a range war if the government continues with its effort to enforce the law. Let that sink in for a minute. The government is halting their efforts to enforce the law because of the threats being made by Bundy supporters.

Now they have empowered these terrorists to threaten violence at every chance when they don't get their way. The government should have deployed the army and gave an ultimatum to leave or be shot.

They need to do something about him. Leaving him to do what he wants because his militia will kill people is irresponsible. The govt is asking for bigger trouble if they don't.

There's a lot to lose by escalating and very little to again. A wise move by POTUS. Yes, to the general public it gives the appearance that he is weak and that the militants are strong and were justified, but that's a small price to pay to avoid bloodshed.

Seize his bank accounts, arrest him on contempt of court (but wait until this cools off and he comes to town for groceries), and keep him in jail until he complies. There is no reason to resort to a violent confrontation here.

These nuts and their kind in the land would LOVE to see a bunch of patriotic militants gun down federal officers.

That wasn't what I was implying or wanted. I want them to do something to him. He is not above the law no matter how many armed buddies he has. What you posted is what I was hoping would happen. I hope the govt follows through on this. Peacefully is always the way I prefer.

On the one hand, you want to avoid violence if possible. On the other, you can't just let people ignore the laws because they have guns.

But either way "bloodlust" has nothing to do with it.

I think this deal is just the thing to de-escalate the situation for now.

They are obviously trying to start something so they can scream "Look what the big, bad government did! Whaaaah....Whaaaah...!" Let them sit there in violation of the law while everyone else is playing by the rules. Let them feel emboldened so much by this little victory that they get all cocky and stupid and start demanding so much that the public has finally had enough of them and gives the government their consent to crack down on these idiots. When you finally move against these numb nuts you want a solid case without controversy. You want a public display and record of their continuing refusal to play nice. You want a history of troublemaking and mayhem everyone is tired of. You want to give them enough rope to hang themselves. Otherwise, you'll never get rid of them. A cattle dispute is not enough rope.
