Fred Phelps, the founder of Westboro Baptist Church in Topeka, Kansas is dead and gone, but the institution of intolerance and hatred is still on the march, and headed to Alaska. WBC has a long history of organizing anti-gay protests, and picketing military and other funerals with crude and offensive signs.
Now, Westboro Baptist Church has announced plans to picket the Alaska Native Heritage Center in Anchorage on the morning of June 1. Why, you ask?
A news release posted on GodHatesFags.com, replete with Bible quotations, states two reasons for protesting the Alaska Heritage Center.
you make a religion out of the pagan idolatrous practices of past generations. There is nothing appealing or holy about the heritage of the eleven distinct cultures or diverse population of Alaska. They walked in darkness and served idols of every kind, contrary to the direct commandment to have no gods before God.
you fail to give God the glory, instead of the traditions and gods of the past Stop worshiping dead cultures, man-made idols, and the sinful traditions of past generations. Put the resources into teaching and learning the Bible instead, and warning your neighbor to stop sinning before its too late, and hes sinned away the last day of grace.

Good grief. As if Alaska's Native cultures weren't here for thousands of years before their "religions."

(38,506 posts)why some people are so full of hate. It can't be fun to be that way.
I like to be happy. Who wants to run around hating people?

(252 posts)They show up at an Alaskan village or anywhere natives are celebrating/holding ceremony, they'll need police protection. We 'Indins' don't cotton to anyone telling us what to do or how to act when it comes to our individual culture. They announced they'd show up on my Rez for a relatives funeral who was killed in Iraq a while back. I think my tribal government simply announced they could not guarantee westboros safety and they never showed up...

(46,436 posts)Evidently WBC has backed down on picketing the Heritage Center after a huge outcry from locals and even a press release from the govenor, who ordinarily is a major putz. They are still planning to picket Catholic Holy Family Cathedral and mega Changepoint Community Church (which coincidentally is the governor's home church) for the sin of being "lukewarm." Counter protests are still being planned.
