as much as the race card may seem tired, an Afro-American who is playing on the same big boy field as the billionaires,

all while dealing with AIDS.

You go on with your bad self and the race card.

I'm just happy to have a LOS ANGELES SPORTS LEGEND and an all-around WONDERFULFUCKINGPERSON at the helm.

Magic doesn't wear the AIDS thing on his sleeve, and I won't force him to.

Magic Johnson-led group is picked as Dodgers' next owner
The group, headed by the Lakers legend known for community involvement, agrees to pay $2 billion for the team. Frank McCourt keeps a small land take.
By Bill Shaikin and David Wharton

March 27, 2012, 10:45 p.m.
A group led by Lakers legend Magic Johnson emerged Tuesday night as the new owners of the Dodgers, ending months of uncertainty for the storied but troubled baseball franchise.

Johnson, who guided the Lakers to five NBA championships during the "Showtime" era of the 1980s, is a partner in the group along with longtime baseball executive Stan Kasten and movie executive Peter Guber. The controlling owner would be Mark Walter, chief executive officer of Guggenheim Partners, a Chicago-based financial services company.

--------

After taking the team into bankruptcy last year, McCourt had sought to retain control of the parking lots surrounding the ballpark. It was announced he and "certain affiliates" of the new ownership will be "forming a joint venture, which will acquire the Chavez Ravine property for an additional $150 million."

--------

Johnson, who has built a reputation for community involvement since his playing days ended, would own a small stake in the Dodgers, as would Guber, who is co-owner of the NBA's Golden State Warriors. Johnson and Guber are partners in the Dayton Dragons, a minor league baseball team that has sold out 844 consecutive games, an ongoing record in U.S. professional sports.

Happy Days are in store for Dodger Fans. TRUE Baseball fans. FANS of the GAME first, and their DODGERS second.

You watch season ticket sales surge. You watch average attendance SURGE.

I'll bet your next year's DU star that the Dodgers draw more fans in 2012 than ANY OTHER TEAM in MLB.

...but yeah, at least it turns the corner. I'm a true baseball fan, and that's why Frank McCourt's crap was so offensive. It's going to take some time to trust again and it's not like FOX was all that great before hand. I'm sure ticket sales will surge, but will ticket prices rise to pay this ransom? I wear a Dodger cap almost daily and my Jackie Robinson shirt is faded. I think Blue, but I'm jaded.

8. I blame the McCourt thing on the "Boys Club" that owns baseball in general.

That the Dodgers were sold to McCourt in the first place was a mistake. How could the Dodgers, one of the MOST famous sports franchises be sold to someone who had to BORROW over $400,000,000 to buy them?

Though we may disagree on a thousand different things... let's celebrate tonight. I wear a Dodger jersey that has my name between the shoulders... and once I was called on it. I felt guilty about putting my name above his number but in the grand scheme of things... 42 is the meaning of life (if you've read The Book, you know what I mean).

I'm a fan from the days when I first came to understand competitive sports. Walter. Tommy. Ron Cey, Bill Russel, Davey Lopes, and Steve Garvey (I have a jersey signed by all of them). Jimmy Winn. Joe Ferguson (I was in the stadium when he threw Sal Bando out at the plate in the World Series).

Make you a deal... if the Dodgers are leading the West at the All-Star Break, I'll buy you dinner at the Stadium Club the NEXT time they play at home, and tell you about how Jeff Kent threw me a ball at Wrigley Field and McCourt got him to sign it for me at Dodger Stadium at the last home game of the season when Nomar hit a walk-off home run to end the game.

I'm happy.

when I used to live in Santa Barbara. Friends of mine, and I would all go down together. The guy I went with had seats along the first base line (visitors box) and I thought they were the best seats ever for a game. When I finally went home to San Francisco, I could never get as good of a seat there.. but hey.. I Love OPENING DAY.. grabbing a cold beer, a steamed hot dog.. and a bunch of
team goodies to wear.

Just love baseball.. NO matter where its played.

We must have come of age at the same time. You left out Steve Yeager! I met (and kissed) Yeager, Dusty Baker, and Steve Garvey. Stll have my autographed pics of them. I used to know all of their stats, not just their batting averages, but all their stats lol.

It was one of my favorite things to go watch a game.

I might actually start following them again

How many teachers could that hire? How many homeless could that shelter? How many hungry could that feed? How many tents could the Occupy movement purchase?

And all for what? To provide million dollar paychecks to spoiled rotten arrogant pampered "athletes", and pay minimum wages to a few part-time service workers on game day at the stadium.

Bread and circuses. Rome is calling, they want their crumbled empire back.

Do I read that right? How would you rectify what you see as some kind of sports-related injustice in the context of where you want money spent? Would you deny baseball fans the opportunity to go to baseball games?

Teachers do not get paid by the owners of Major League Baseball, and I'm confused... are you suggesting that someone other than protesters should buy tents for the Occupy protests?

Rome fell. Modern civilization IS NOT going to fail because of baseball.
